Moses Consecrates Aaron and His Sons

“Take Aaron and his sons -, their garments, the anointing oil, the bull of the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread,
𐤒𐤇 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤀𐤕𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤔𐤇𐤄 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤔𐤌𐤍 𐤐𐤓 𐤄𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤔𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤀𐤉𐤋𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤎𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤕
קַ֤ח אֶֽת־ אַהֲרֹן֙ וְאֶת־ בָּנָ֣יו אִתּ֔וֹ וְאֵת֙ הַבְּגָדִ֔ים וְאֵ֖ת הַמִּשְׁחָ֑ה וְאֵ֣ת׀ שֶׁ֣מֶן פַּ֣ר הַֽחַטָּ֗את וְאֵת֙ שְׁנֵ֣י הָֽאֵילִ֔ים וְאֵ֖ת סַ֥ל הַמַּצּֽוֹת׃ qaḥ ’eṯ- ’a·hă·rōn wə·’eṯ- bā·nāw ’it·tōw wə·’êṯ hab·bə·ḡā·ḏîm wə·’êṯ ham·miš·ḥāh wə·’êṯ še·men par ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ wə·’êṯ šə·nê hā·’ê·lîm wə·’êṯ sal ham·maṣ·ṣō·wṯ — WLC · 2

- and assemble the whole congregation at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.”

וְאֵ֥ת הַקְהֵ֑ל כָּל־ הָעֵדָ֖ה אֶל־ פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃ wə·’êṯ haq·hêl kāl- hā·‘ê·ḏāh ’el- pe·ṯaḥ ’ō·hel mō·w·‘êḏ — WLC · 3

So Moses did as the LORD had commanded him, and the assembly gathered at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

מֹשֶׁ֔ה וַיַּ֣עַשׂ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר יְהוָ֖ה אֹת֑וֹ צִוָּ֥ה הָֽעֵדָ֔ה וַתִּקָּהֵל֙ אֶל־ פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃ mō·šeh way·ya·‘aś ka·’ă·šer Yah·weh ’ō·ṯōw ṣiw·wāh hā·‘ê·ḏāh wat·tiq·qā·hêl ’el- pe·ṯaḥ ’ō·hel mō·w·‘êḏ — WLC · 4

And Moses said to them…, “This… is what the LORD has commanded to be done.”

מֹשֶׁ֖ה וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־ הָעֵדָ֑ה זֶ֣ה הַדָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁר־ יְהוָ֖ה צִוָּ֥ה לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ mō·šeh way·yō·mer ’el- hā·‘ê·ḏāh zeh had·dā·ḇār ’ă·šer- Yah·weh ṣiw·wāh la·‘ă·śō·wṯ — WLC · 5

Then Moses presented Aaron and his sons and washed them with water.

מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶֽת־ וַיַּקְרֵ֣ב אַהֲרֹ֖ן וְאֶת־ בָּנָ֑יו וַיִּרְחַ֥ץ אֹתָ֖ם בַּמָּֽיִם׃ mō·šeh ’eṯ- way·yaq·rêḇ ’a·hă·rōn wə·’eṯ- bā·nāw way·yir·ḥaṣ ’ō·ṯām bam·mā·yim — WLC · 6

He put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod on him. He tied the woven band of the ephod around him and fastened it to him

Then he put the breastpiece on him and placed the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece. -

וַיָּ֥שֶׂם הַחֹ֑שֶׁן עָלָ֖יו אֶת־ וַיִּתֵּן֙ הָאוּרִ֖ים וְאֶת־ הַתֻּמִּֽים׃ אֶל־ הַחֹ֔שֶׁן אֶת־ way·yā·śem ha·ḥō·šen ‘ā·lāw ’eṯ- way·yit·tên hā·’ū·rîm wə·’eṯ- hat·tum·mîm ’el- ha·ḥō·šen ’eṯ- — WLC · 8

[Moses] also put the turban on [Aaron’s] head and set… the gold plate, the holy diadem, on the front… of the turban, as the LORD had commanded [him].

Next, Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it; and so he consecrated them.
𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 𐤄𐤌𐤔𐤇𐤄 𐤔𐤌𐤍 𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤔𐤇 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤔𐤊𐤍 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤁𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤀𐤕𐤌
מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶת־ וַיִּקַּ֤ח הַמִּשְׁחָ֔ה שֶׁ֣מֶן וַיִּמְשַׁ֥ח אֶת־ הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן וְאֶת־ כָּל־ אֲשֶׁר־ בּ֑וֹ וַיְקַדֵּ֖שׁ אֹתָֽם׃ mō·šeh ’eṯ- way·yiq·qaḥ ham·miš·ḥāh še·men way·yim·šaḥ ’eṯ- ham·miš·kān wə·’eṯ- kāl- ’ă·šer- bōw way·qad·dêš ’ō·ṯām — WLC · 10

He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, anointing the altar and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, to consecrate them.
𐤅𐤉𐤆 𐤌𐤌𐤍𐤅 𐤏𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤔𐤁𐤏 𐤐𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤔𐤇 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤊𐤋𐤉𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤊𐤉𐤓 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤍𐤅 𐤋𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤌
וַיַּ֥ז מִמֶּ֛נּוּ עַל־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ שֶׁ֣בַע פְּעָמִ֑ים וַיִּמְשַׁ֨ח אֶת־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֜חַ וְאֶת־ כָּל־ כֵּלָ֗יו וְאֶת־ הַכִּיֹּ֛ר וְאֶת־ כַּנּ֖וֹ לְקַדְּשָֽׁם׃ way·yaz mim·men·nū ‘al- ham·miz·bê·aḥ še·ḇa‘ pə·‘ā·mîm way·yim·šaḥ ’eṯ- ham·miz·bê·aḥ wə·’eṯ- kāl- kê·lāw wə·’eṯ- hak·kî·yōr wə·’eṯ- kan·nōw lə·qad·də·šām — WLC · 11

He also poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him to consecrate him.

וַיִּצֹק֙ הַמִּשְׁחָ֔ה מִשֶּׁ֣מֶן עַ֖ל אַהֲרֹ֑ן רֹ֣אשׁ וַיִּמְשַׁ֥ח אֹת֖וֹ לְקַדְּשֽׁוֹ׃ way·yi·ṣōq ham·miš·ḥāh miš·še·men ‘al ’a·hă·rōn rōš way·yim·šaḥ ’ō·ṯōw lə·qad·də·šōw — WLC · 12

Then Moses presented Aaron’s sons, put tunics on them, wrapped sashes around them, and tied headbands on them, just as the LORD had commanded [him].

מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֶת־ וַיַּקְרֵ֨ב אַהֲרֹ֗ן בְּנֵ֣י וַיַּלְבִּשֵׁ֤ם כֻּתֳּנֹת֙ אַבְנֵ֔ט וַיַּחְגֹּ֤ר אֹתָם֙ וַיַּחֲבֹ֥שׁ מִגְבָּע֑וֹת לָהֶ֖ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־ צִוָּ֥ה מֹשֶֽׁה׃ mō·šeh ’eṯ- way·yaq·rêḇ ’a·hă·rōn bə·nê way·yal·bi·šêm kut·to·nōṯ ’aḇ·nêṭ way·yaḥ·gōr ’ō·ṯām way·ya·ḥă·ḇōš miḡ·bā·‘ō·wṯ lā·hem ka·’ă·šer Yah·weh ’eṯ- ṣiw·wāh mō·šeh — WLC · 13
The Priests’ Sin Offering

[Moses] then brought the bull near for the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head -.
𐤐𐤓 𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤔 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤌𐤊 𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤏𐤋 𐤓𐤀𐤔 𐤐𐤓 𐤄𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤕
פַּ֣ר וַיַּגֵּ֕שׁ אֵ֖ת הַֽחַטָּ֑את אַהֲרֹ֤ן וּבָנָיו֙ אֶת־ וַיִּסְמֹ֨ךְ יְדֵיהֶ֔ם עַל־ רֹ֖אשׁ פַּ֥ר הַֽחַטָּֽאת׃ par way·yag·gêš ’êṯ ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ ’a·hă·rōn ū·ḇā·nāw ’eṯ- way·yis·mōḵ yə·ḏê·hem ‘al- rōš par ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ — WLC · 14

Moses slaughtered [the bull], took some of the blood, and applied it with his finger to all [four] horns of the altar, purifying the altar. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it so that atonement could be made on it.

מֹשֶׁ֤ה אֶת־ וַיִּשְׁחָ֗ט וַיִּקַּ֨ח הַדָּם֙ וַ֠יִּתֵּן בְּאֶצְבָּע֔וֹ עַל־ סָבִיב֙ קַרְנ֨וֹת הַמִּזְבֵּ֤חַ וַיְחַטֵּ֖א אֶת־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ וְאֶת־ יָצַק֙ הַדָּ֗ם אֶל־ יְס֣וֹד הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ וַֽיְקַדְּשֵׁ֖הוּ לְכַפֵּ֥ר עָלָֽיו׃ mō·šeh ’eṯ- way·yiš·ḥāṭ way·yiq·qaḥ had·dām way·yit·tên bə·’eṣ·bā·‘ōw ‘al- sā·ḇîḇ qar·nō·wṯ ham·miz·bê·aḥ way·ḥaṭ·ṭê ’eṯ- ham·miz·bê·aḥ wə·’eṯ- yā·ṣaq had·dām ’el- yə·sō·wḏ ham·miz·bê·aḥ way·qad·də·šê·hū lə·ḵap·pêr ‘ā·lāw — WLC · 15

Moses also took all the fat that was on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys and their fat, and burned [it all] on the altar.

מֹשֶׁ֖ה וַיִּקַּ֗ח אֶֽת־ כָּל־ הַחֵלֶב֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־ הַקֶּרֶב֒ וְאֵת֙ יֹתֶ֣רֶת הַכָּבֵ֔ד וְאֶת־ שְׁתֵּ֥י הַכְּלָיֹ֖ת וְאֶֽת־ חֶלְבְּהֶ֑ן וַיַּקְטֵ֥ר הַמִּזְבֵּֽחָה׃ mō·šeh way·yiq·qaḥ ’eṯ- kāl- ha·ḥê·leḇ ’ă·šer ‘al- haq·qe·reḇ wə·’êṯ yō·ṯe·reṯ hak·kā·ḇêḏ wə·’eṯ- šə·tê hak·kə·lā·yōṯ wə·’eṯ- ḥel·bə·hen way·yaq·ṭêr ham·miz·bê·ḥāh — WLC · 16

But the bull with its hide, flesh, and dung he burned… outside the camp, as the LORD had commanded [him].

The Priests’ Burnt Offering

Then [Moses] presented the ram for the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head -.

וַיַּקְרֵ֕ב אֵ֖ת אֵ֣יל הָעֹלָ֑ה אַהֲרֹ֧ן וּבָנָ֛יו אֶת־ וַֽיִּסְמְכ֞וּ יְדֵיהֶ֖ם עַל־ רֹ֥אשׁ הָאָֽיִל׃ way·yaq·rêḇ ’êṯ ’êl hā·‘ō·lāh ’a·hă·rōn ū·ḇā·nāw ’eṯ- way·yis·mə·ḵū yə·ḏê·hem ‘al- rōš hā·’ā·yil — WLC · 18

Moses slaughtered [the ram] and splattered the blood on all sides of the altar.

- [He] cut the ram into pieces and burned the head, the pieces, and the fat.

- He washed the entrails and legs with water - and burned the entire ram on the altar as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering… to the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

The Ram of Ordination

After that, [Moses] presented the other ram, the ram of ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on [its] head.

Moses slaughtered [the ram] and took some of its blood and put it on Aaron’s right earlobe…, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.

And [Moses] took the fat— the fat tail, all the fat that was on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with their fat— as well as the right thigh.

And from the basket of unleavened bread that was before the LORD, he took one cake of unleavened bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer, and he placed them on the fat portions and on the right thigh.

He put all [these] in the hands of Aaron… and his sons and waved them before the LORD as a wave offering.

Then Moses took these from their hands and burned them on the altar with the burnt offering. This was an ordination offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering… to the LORD.

He also took the breast— Moses’ portion of the ram of ordination— and waved it before the LORD as a wave offering, as the LORD had commanded him.

Next, Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons… and their… garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his garments, as well as [Aaron’s] sons and their… garments.

And Moses said to Aaron… and his sons, “Boil the meat at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket of ordination offerings, as I commanded, saying, ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat it.’

Then you must burn up… the remainder of the meat and bread.

You must not go outside the entrance to the Tent of Meeting for seven days, until the days… of your ordination are complete; for it will take seven days to ordain you.

You must remain at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting day and night for seven days and keep the LORD’s charge so that you will not die, for this is what I have been commanded.”
