Chapter 10
New Stone Tablets
1
At that time the LORD said to me, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the originals, come up to Me on the mountain, and make an ark of wood.
𐤄𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤁𐤏𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤐𐤎𐤋 𐤋𐤊 𐤔𐤍𐤉 𐤀𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤅𐤇𐤕 𐤊𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤄𐤄𐤓𐤄 𐤅𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕 𐤋𐤊 𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤍 𐤏𐤑
הַהִ֜וא בָּעֵ֨ת יְהוָ֣ה אָמַ֧ר אֵלַ֗י פְּסָל־ לְךָ֞ שְׁנֵֽי־ אֲבָנִים֙ לֻוחֹ֤ת כָּרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים וַעֲלֵ֥ה אֵלַ֖י הָהָ֑רָה וְעָשִׂ֥יתָ לְּךָ֖ אֲר֥וֹן עֵֽץ׃ ha·hi·w bā·‘êṯ Yah·weh ’ā·mar ’ê·lay pə·sāl- lə·ḵā šə·nê- ’ă·ḇā·nîm lu·w·ḥōṯ kā·ri·šō·nîm wa·‘ă·lêh ’ê·lay hā·hā·rāh wə·‘ā·śî·ṯā lə·ḵā ’ă·rō·wn ‘êṣ — WLC · 1

And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke; and you are to place them in the ark.”
𐤅𐤀𐤊𐤕𐤁 𐤏𐤋 𐤄𐤋𐤇𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤉𐤅 𐤏𐤋 𐤄𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤋𐤇𐤕 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤔𐤁𐤓𐤕 𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤕𐤌 𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤍
וְאֶכְתֹּב֙ עַל־ הַלֻּחֹ֔ת אֶת־ הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָי֛וּ עַל־ הָרִאשֹׁנִ֖ים הַלֻּחֹ֥ת אֲשֶׁ֣ר שִׁבַּ֑רְתָּ וְשַׂמְתָּ֖ם בָּאָרֽוֹן׃ wə·’eḵ·tōḇ ‘al- hal·lu·ḥōṯ ’eṯ- had·də·ḇā·rîm ’ă·šer hā·yū ‘al- hā·ri·šō·nîm hal·lu·ḥōṯ ’ă·šer šib·bar·tā wə·śam·tām bā·’ā·rō·wn — WLC · 2

So I made an ark of acacia wood, chiseled out two stone tablets like the originals, and went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hands.

וָאַ֤עַשׂ אֲרוֹן֙ שִׁטִּ֔ים עֲצֵ֣י וָאֶפְסֹ֛ל שְׁנֵי־ אֲבָנִ֖ים לֻחֹ֥ת כָּרִאשֹׁנִ֑ים וָאַ֣עַל הָהָ֔רָה וּשְׁנֵ֥י הַלֻּחֹ֖ת בְּיָדִֽי׃ wā·’a·‘aś ’ă·rō·wn šiṭ·ṭîm ‘ă·ṣê wā·’ep̄·sōl šə·nê- ’ă·ḇā·nîm lu·ḥōṯ kā·ri·šō·nîm wā·’a·‘al hā·hā·rāh ū·šə·nê hal·lu·ḥōṯ bə·yā·ḏî — WLC · 3

And [the LORD] wrote on the tablets what had been written previously, the Ten Commandments that He had spoken to you on the mountain out of the fire on the day of the assembly. The LORD gave them to me,

וַיִּכְתֹּ֨ב עַֽל־ הַלֻּחֹ֜ת כַּמִּכְתָּ֣ב הָרִאשׁ֗וֹן אֵ֚ת עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְהוָ֨ה דִּבֶּר֩ אֲלֵיכֶ֥ם בָּהָ֛ר מִתּ֥וֹךְ הָאֵ֖שׁ בְּי֣וֹם הַקָּהָ֑ל יְהוָ֖ה וַיִּתְּנֵ֥ם אֵלָֽי׃ way·yiḵ·tōḇ ‘al- hal·lu·ḥōṯ kam·miḵ·tāḇ hā·ri·šō·wn ’êṯ ‘ă·śe·reṯ had·də·ḇā·rîm ’ă·šer Yah·weh dib·ber ’ă·lê·ḵem bā·hār mit·tō·wḵ hā·’êš bə·yō·wm haq·qā·hāl Yah·weh way·yit·tə·nêm ’ê·lāy — WLC · 4

and I went back down… the mountain and placed the tablets in the ark I had made, as the LORD had commanded me; and there they have remained -.

וָאֵ֗פֶן וָֽאֵרֵד֙ מִן־ הָהָ֔ר וָֽאָשִׂם֙ אֶת־ הַלֻּחֹ֔ת בָּאָר֖וֹן עָשִׂ֑יתִי אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְהוָֽה׃ צִוַּ֖נִי שָׁ֔ם וַיִּ֣הְיוּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר wā·’ê·p̄en wā·’ê·rêḏ min- hā·hār wā·’ā·śim ’eṯ- hal·lu·ḥōṯ bā·’ā·rō·wn ‘ā·śî·ṯî ’ă·šer Yah·weh ṣiw·wa·nî šām way·yih·yū ka·’ă·šer — WLC · 5

The Israelites… traveled from vvv Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried -, and Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest…

וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל נָֽסְע֛וּ מִבְּאֵרֹ֥ת בְּנֵי־ יַעֲקָ֖ן מוֹסֵרָ֑ה שָׁ֣ם אַהֲרֹן֙ מֵ֤ת וַיִּקָּבֵ֣ר שָׁ֔ם אֶלְעָזָ֥ר בְּנ֖וֹ וַיְכַהֵ֛ן תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ ū·ḇə·nê yiś·rā·’êl nā·sə·‘ū mib·bə·’ê·rōṯ bə·nê- ya·‘ă·qān mō·w·sê·rāh šām ’a·hă·rōn mêṯ way·yiq·qā·ḇêr šām ’el·‘ā·zār bə·nōw way·ḵa·hên taḥ·tāw — WLC · 6

From there they traveled to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water.

וּמִן־ מִשָּׁ֥ם נָסְע֖וּ הַגֻּדְגֹּ֑דָה הַגֻּדְגֹּ֣דָה יָטְבָ֔תָה אֶ֖רֶץ נַ֥חֲלֵי מָֽיִם׃ ū·min- miš·šām nā·sə·‘ū hag·guḏ·gō·ḏāh hag·guḏ·gō·ḏāh yā·ṭə·ḇā·ṯāh ’e·reṣ na·ḥă·lē mā·yim — WLC · 7

At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to serve Him, and to pronounce blessings in His name, as [they do] to this day…
𐤄𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤁𐤏𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤋 𐤔𐤁𐤈 𐤄𐤋𐤅𐤉 𐤋𐤔𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤍 𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤋𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤋𐤔𐤓𐤕𐤅 𐤅𐤋𐤁𐤓𐤊 𐤁𐤔𐤌𐤅 𐤏𐤃 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤄𐤆𐤄
הַהִ֗וא בָּעֵ֣ת יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ הִבְדִּ֤יל שֵׁ֣בֶט הַלֵּוִ֔י לָשֵׂ֖את אֶת־ אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית־ יְהוָ֑ה לַעֲמֹד֩ לִפְנֵ֨י יְהוָ֤ה לְשָֽׁרְתוֹ֙ וּלְבָרֵ֣ךְ בִּשְׁמ֔וֹ עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ ha·hi·w bā·‘êṯ Yah·weh ’eṯ- hiḇ·dîl šê·ḇeṭ hal·lê·wî lā·śêṯ ’eṯ- ’ă·rō·wn bə·rîṯ- Yah·weh la·‘ă·mōḏ lip̄·nê Yah·weh lə·šā·rə·ṯōw ū·lə·ḇā·rêḵ biš·mōw ‘aḏ hay·yō·wm haz·zeh — WLC · 8

That is why… Levi has no portion or inheritance among his brothers; the LORD… is his inheritance, as the LORD your God promised him.
𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤍 𐤋𐤋𐤅𐤉 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤋𐤀 𐤇𐤋𐤒 𐤅𐤍𐤇𐤋𐤄 𐤏𐤌 𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤍𐤇𐤋𐤕𐤅 𐤊𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤊 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤋𐤅
עַל־ כֵּ֞ן לְלֵוִ֛י הָיָ֧ה לֹֽא־ חֵ֥לֶק וְנַחֲלָ֖ה עִם־ אֶחָ֑יו יְהוָה֙ ה֣וּא נַחֲלָת֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ דִּבֶּ֛ר לֽוֹ׃ ‘al- kên lə·lê·wî hā·yāh lō- ḥê·leq wə·na·ḥă·lāh ‘im- ’e·ḥāw Yah·weh hū na·ḥă·lā·ṯōw ka·’ă·šer Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā dib·ber lōw — WLC · 9

I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, like the first time, and that time the LORD again listened to me [and] agreed not to destroy you.

וְאָנֹכִ֞י עָמַ֣דְתִּי בָהָ֗ר אַרְבָּעִ֣ים כַּיָּמִים֙ וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים לָ֑יְלָה הָרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים י֔וֹם הַהִ֔וא בַּפַּ֣עַם יְהוָ֜ה גַּ֚ם וַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע אֵלַ֗י יְהוָ֖ה אָבָ֥ה לֹא־ הַשְׁחִיתֶֽךָ׃ wə·’ā·nō·ḵî ‘ā·maḏ·tî ḇā·hār ’ar·bā·‘îm kay·yā·mîm wə·’ar·bā·‘îm lā·yə·lāh hā·ri·šō·nîm yō·wm ha·hi·w bap·pa·‘am Yah·weh gam way·yiš·ma‘ ’ê·lay Yah·weh ’ā·ḇāh lō- haš·ḥî·ṯe·ḵā — WLC · 10

Then the LORD said to me, “Get up. Continue your journey ahead of the people, that they may enter and possess the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.”

יְהוָה֙ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלַ֔י ק֛וּם לֵ֥ךְ לְמַסַּ֖ע לִפְנֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם וְיָבֹ֙אוּ֙ וְיִֽרְשׁ֣וּ אֶת־ הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתִּי לָהֶֽם׃פ לַאֲבֹתָ֖ם לָתֵ֥ת Yah·weh way·yō·mer ’ê·lay qūm lêḵ lə·mas·sa‘ lip̄·nê hā·‘ām wə·yā·ḇō·’ū wə·yir·šū ’eṯ- hā·’ā·reṣ ’ă·šer- niš·ba‘·tî lā·hem la·’ă·ḇō·ṯām lā·ṯêṯ — WLC · 11
A Call to Obedience

And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but… to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him -, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
𐤅𐤏𐤕𐤄 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤄 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤊 𐤔𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤏𐤌𐤊 𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤌 𐤋𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤄 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤊 𐤋𐤋𐤊𐤕 𐤁𐤊𐤋 𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤉𐤅 𐤅𐤋𐤀𐤄𐤁𐤄 𐤀𐤕𐤅 𐤅𐤋𐤏𐤁𐤃 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤊 𐤁𐤊𐤋 𐤋𐤁𐤁𐤊 𐤅𐤁𐤊𐤋 𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤊
וְעַתָּה֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מָ֚ה יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ שֹׁאֵ֖ל מֵעִמָּ֑ךְ כִּ֣י אִם־ לְ֠יִרְאָה אֶת־ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ לָלֶ֤כֶת בְּכָל־ דְּרָכָיו֙ וּלְאַהֲבָ֣ה אֹת֔וֹ וְלַֽעֲבֹד֙ אֶת־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכָל־ לְבָבְךָ֖ וּבְכָל־ נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ wə·‘at·tāh yiś·rā·’êl māh Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā šō·’êl mê·‘im·māḵ kî ’im- lə·yir·’āh ’eṯ- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā lā·le·ḵeṯ bə·ḵāl də·rā·ḵāw ū·lə·’a·hă·ḇāh ’ō·ṯōw wə·la·‘ă·ḇōḏ ’eṯ- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā bə·ḵāl lə·ḇā·ḇə·ḵā ū·ḇə·ḵāl nap̄·še·ḵā — WLC · 12

[and] to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD that I am giving you this day for your own good
𐤋𐤔𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤕 𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤇𐤒𐤕𐤉𐤅 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤀𐤍𐤊𐤉 𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤊 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤈𐤅𐤁 𐤋𐤊
לִשְׁמֹ֞ר אֶת־ מִצְוֺ֤ת וְאֶת־ חֻקֹּתָ֔יו יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּ֑וֹם לְט֖וֹב לָֽךְ׃ liš·mōr ’eṯ- miṣ·wōṯ wə·’eṯ- ḥuq·qō·ṯāw Yah·weh ’ă·šer ’ā·nō·ḵî mə·ṣaw·wə·ḵā hay·yō·wm lə·ṭō·wḇ lāḵ — WLC · 13

Behold, to the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, and the earth and everything in it.
𐤄𐤍 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤊 𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤉 𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤅𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤁𐤄
הֵ֚ן לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וּשְׁמֵ֣י הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם הָאָ֖רֶץ וְכָל־ אֲשֶׁר־ בָּֽהּ׃ hên Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā haš·šā·ma·yim ū·šə·mê haš·šā·mā·yim hā·’ā·reṣ wə·ḵāl ’ă·šer- bāh — WLC · 14

Yet the LORD has set His affection on your fathers and loved them. And He has chosen you, their descendants after them, above all the peoples, even to this day…

רַ֧ק יְהוָ֖ה חָשַׁ֥ק בַּאֲבֹתֶ֛יךָ לְאַהֲבָ֣ה אוֹתָ֑ם וַיִּבְחַ֞ר בְּזַרְעָ֣ם אַחֲרֵיהֶ֗ם בָּכֶ֛ם מִכָּל־ הָעַמִּ֖ים כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּה׃ raq Yah·weh ḥā·šaq ba·’ă·ḇō·ṯe·ḵā lə·’a·hă·ḇāh ’ō·w·ṯām way·yiḇ·ḥar bə·zar·‘ām ’a·ḥă·rê·hem bā·ḵem mik·kāl hā·‘am·mîm kay·yō·wm haz·zɛh — WLC · 15

Circumcise - your hearts, therefore, and stiffen your necks no more.

For the LORD your God… is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God, showing no partiality… and accepting no bribe.

He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and He loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing.
