Chapter 2

Wanderings in the Wilderness

Then we turned back and headed for the wilderness by way of the Red Sea, as the LORD… had instructed me, and for many days we wandered around Mount Seir.

𐤅𐤍𐤐𐤍 𐤅𐤍𐤎𐤏 𐤄𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤄 𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤎𐤅𐤐 𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤎 𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤍𐤎𐤁 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤓 𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓

וַנֵּ֜פֶן וַנִּסַּ֤ע הַמִּדְבָּ֙רָה֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ ס֔וּף יַם־ כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י דִּבֶּ֥ר רַבִּֽים׃ס יָמִ֥ים וַנָּ֥סָב אֶת־ הַר־ שֵׂעִ֖יר wan·nê·p̄en wan·nis·sa‘ ham·miḏ·bā·rāh de·reḵ sūp̄ yam- ka·’ă·šer Yah·weh ’ê·lāy dib·ber rab·bîm yā·mîm wan·nā·sāḇ ’eṯ- har- śê·‘îrWLC · 1

At this time the LORD said to me…,

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃ Yah·weh way·yō·mer ’ê·lay lê·mōrWLC · 2

“You have been wandering around this hill country long enough turn to the north

𐤎𐤁 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤆𐤄 𐤄𐤄𐤓 𐤓𐤁 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤐𐤍𐤅 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤑𐤐𐤍𐤄

סֹ֖ב אֶת־ הַזֶּ֑ה הָהָ֣ר רַב־ לָכֶ֕ם פְּנ֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם צָפֹֽנָה׃ sōḇ ’eṯ- haz·zeh hā·hār raḇ- lā·ḵem pə·nū lā·ḵem ṣā·p̄ō·nāhWLC · 3

  • and command… the people: ‘You will pass through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so you must be very careful.

𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤑𐤅 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤄𐤏𐤌 𐤀𐤕𐤌 𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤋 𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤔𐤅 𐤄𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤅𐤉𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤌𐤊𐤌 𐤌𐤀𐤃 𐤅𐤍𐤔𐤌𐤓𐤕𐤌

וְאֶת־ צַ֣ו לֵאמֹר֒ הָעָם֮ אַתֶּ֣ם עֹֽבְרִ֗ים בִּגְבוּל֙ אֲחֵיכֶ֣ם בְּנֵי־ עֵשָׂ֔ו הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים בְּשֵׂעִ֑יר וְיִֽירְא֣וּ מִכֶּ֔ם מְאֹֽד׃ וְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם wə·’eṯ- ṣaw lê·mōr hā·‘ām ’at·tem ‘ō·ḇə·rîm biḡ·ḇūl ’ă·ḥê·ḵem bə·nê- ‘ê·śāw hay·yō·šə·ḇîm bə·śê·‘îr wə·yî·rə·’ū mik·kem mə·’ōḏ wə·niš·mar·temWLC · 4

Do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even a footprint…,… because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as [his] possession.

𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤕𐤂𐤓𐤅 𐤁𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤕𐤍 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤌𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤌 𐤏𐤃 𐤌𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤊𐤐 𐤓𐤂𐤋 𐤊𐤉 𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤓 𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤋𐤏𐤔𐤅 𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤄

אַל־ תִּתְגָּר֣וּ בָ֔ם כִּ֠י לֹֽא־ אֶתֵּ֤ן לָכֶם֙ מֵֽאַרְצָ֔ם עַ֖ד מִדְרַ֣ךְ כַּף־ רָ֑גֶל כִּֽי־ נָתַ֖תִּי אֶת־ הַ֥ר שֵׂעִֽיר׃ לְעֵשָׂ֔ו יְרֻשָּׁ֣ה ’al- tiṯ·gā·rū ḇām kî lō- ’et·tên lā·ḵem mê·’ar·ṣām ‘aḏ miḏ·raḵ kap̄- rā·ḡel kî- nā·ṯat·tî ’eṯ- har śê·‘îr lə·‘ê·śāw yə·ruš·šāhWLC · 5

You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and - the water you drink.’”

תִּשְׁבְּר֧וּ מֵֽאִתָּ֛ם בַּכֶּ֖סֶף אֹ֣כֶל וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֑ם וְגַם־ תִּכְר֧וּ מֵאִתָּ֛ם בַּכֶּ֖סֶף מַ֜יִם וּשְׁתִיתֶֽם׃ tiš·bə·rū mê·’it·tām bak·ke·sep̄ ’ō·ḵel wa·’ă·ḵal·tem wə·ḡam- tiḵ·rū mê·’it·tām bak·ke·sep̄ ma·yim ū·šə·ṯî·ṯemWLC · 6

Indeed, the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. The LORD your God has been with you these forty years, and you have lacked nothing…

כִּי֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ בֵּֽרַכְךָ֗ בְּכֹל֙ מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יָדֶ֔ךָ יָדַ֣ע לֶכְתְּךָ֔ אֶת־ הַזֶּ֑ה הַגָּדֹ֖ל הַמִּדְבָּ֥ר יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ עִמָּ֔ךְ זֶ֣ה׀ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֗ה חָסַ֖רְתָּ לֹ֥א דָּבָֽר׃ kî Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā bê·raḵ·ḵā bə·ḵōl ma·‘ă·śêh yā·ḏe·ḵā yā·ḏa‘ leḵ·tə·ḵā ’eṯ- haz·zeh hag·gā·ḏōl ham·miḏ·bār Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā ‘im·māḵ zeh ’ar·bā·‘îm šā·nāh ḥā·sar·tā lō dā·ḇārWLC · 7

So we passed by… our brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned away from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath vvv and Ezion-geber, and traveled along the road of the Wilderness of Moab.

𐤅𐤍𐤏𐤁𐤓 𐤌𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤔𐤅 𐤄𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤅𐤍𐤐𐤍 𐤄𐤏𐤓𐤁𐤄 𐤌𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤌𐤀𐤉𐤋𐤕 𐤅𐤌𐤏𐤑𐤉𐤍 𐤂𐤁𐤓𐤎 𐤅𐤍𐤏𐤁𐤓 𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤌𐤅𐤀𐤁

וַֽנַּעֲבֹ֞ר מֵאֵ֧ת אַחֵ֣ינוּ בְנֵי־ עֵשָׂ֗ו הַיֹּֽשְׁבִים֙ בְּשֵׂעִ֔יר וַנֵּ֙פֶן֙ הָֽעֲרָבָ֔ה מִדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ מֵאֵילַ֖ת וּמֵעֶצְיֹ֣ן גָּ֑בֶרס וַֽנַּעֲבֹ֔ר דֶּ֖רֶךְ מִדְבַּ֥ר מוֹאָֽב׃ wan·na·‘ă·ḇōr mê·’êṯ ’a·ḥê·nū ḇə·nê- ‘ê·śāw hay·yō·šə·ḇîm bə·śê·‘îr wan·nê·p̄en hā·‘ă·rā·ḇāh mid·de·reḵ mê·’ê·laṯ ū·mê·‘eṣ·yōn gå̄·ḇɛ·rs wan·na·‘ă·ḇōr de·reḵ miḏ·bar mō·w·’āḇWLC · 8

Then the LORD said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites [or] provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land -, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as [their] possession.”

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤑𐤓 𐤀𐤕 𐤌𐤅𐤀𐤁 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤕𐤂𐤓 𐤁𐤌 𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤕𐤍 𐤋𐤊 𐤌𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤅 𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤏𐤓 𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤋𐤅𐤈 𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤄

יְהוָ֜ה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלַ֗י אֶל־ תָּ֙צַר֙ אֶת־ מוֹאָ֔ב וְאַל־ תִּתְגָּ֥ר בָּ֖ם מִלְחָמָ֑ה כִּ֠י לֹֽא־ אֶתֵּ֨ן לְךָ֤ מֵֽאַרְצוֹ֙ יְרֻשָּׁ֔ה כִּ֣י נָתַ֥תִּי אֶת־ עָ֖ר לִבְנֵי־ ל֔וֹט יְרֻשָּֽׁה׃ Yah·weh way·yō·mer ’ê·lay ’el- tå̄·ṣar ’eṯ- mō·w·’āḇ wə·’al- tiṯ·gār bām mil·ḥā·māh kî lō- ’et·tên lə·ḵā mê·’ar·ṣōw yə·ruš·šāh kî nā·ṯat·tî ’eṯ- ‘ār liḇ·nê- lō·wṭ yə·ruš·šāhWLC · 9

(The Emites used to live there, a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites.

𐤄𐤀𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤅 𐤁𐤄 𐤏𐤌 𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤋 𐤅𐤓𐤁 𐤅𐤓𐤌 𐤊𐤏𐤍𐤒𐤉𐤌

הָאֵמִ֥ים לְפָנִ֖ים יָ֣שְׁבוּ בָ֑הּ עַ֣ם גָּד֥וֹל וְרַ֛ב וָרָ֖ם כָּעֲנָקִֽים׃ hā·’ê·mîm lə·p̄ā·nîm yā·šə·ḇū ḇāh ‘am gā·ḏō·wl wə·raḇ wā·rām kā·‘ă·nā·qîmWLC · 10

Like the Anakites, they were also… regarded as Rephaim, though the Moabites called them Emites.

𐤊𐤏𐤍𐤒𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤐 𐤄𐤌 𐤉𐤇𐤔𐤁𐤅 𐤓𐤐𐤀𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤋𐤄𐤌 𐤀𐤌𐤉𐤌

כָּעֲנָקִ֑ים אַף־ הֵ֖ם יֵחָשְׁב֥וּ רְפָאִ֛ים וְהַמֹּ֣אָבִ֔ים יִקְרְא֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם אֵמִֽים׃ kā·‘ă·nā·qîm ’ap̄- hêm yê·ḥā·šə·ḇū rə·p̄ā·’îm wə·ham·mō·’ā·ḇîm yiq·rə·’ū lā·hem ’ê·mîmWLC · 11

The Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed [the Horites] from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land that the LORD gave them as their possession.)

𐤄𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤅 𐤅𐤁𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤔𐤅 𐤉𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤅𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤃𐤅𐤌 𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤅 𐤕𐤇𐤕𐤌 𐤊𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤋𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤍𐤕𐤍 𐤋𐤄𐤌 𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤕𐤅

הַחֹרִים֮ לְפָנִים֒ יָשְׁב֣וּ וּבְשֵׂעִ֞יר וּבְנֵ֧י עֵשָׂ֣ו יִֽירָשׁ֗וּם וַיַּשְׁמִידוּם֙ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֔ם וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ תַּחְתָּ֑ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֧ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל עָשָׂ֣ה לְאֶ֙רֶץ֙ אֲשֶׁר־ יְהוָ֖ה נָתַ֥ן לָהֶֽם׃ יְרֻשָּׁת֔וֹ ha·ḥō·rîm lə·p̄ā·nîm yā·šə·ḇū ū·ḇə·śê·‘îr ū·ḇə·nê ‘ê·śāw yî·rā·šūm way·yaš·mî·ḏūm mip·pə·nê·hem way·yê·šə·ḇū taḥ·tām ka·’ă·šer yiś·rā·’êl ‘ā·śāh lə·’e·reṣ ’ă·šer- Yah·weh nā·ṯan lā·hem yə·ruš·šā·ṯōwWLC · 12

“Now arise and cross over the Brook of Zered.” So we crossed over the Brook of Zered.

𐤏𐤕𐤄 𐤒𐤌𐤅 𐤅𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤅 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤍𐤇𐤋 𐤆𐤓𐤃 𐤅𐤍𐤏𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤕 𐤍𐤇𐤋 𐤆𐤓𐤃

עַתָּ֗ה קֻ֛מוּ וְעִבְר֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם אֶת־ נַ֣חַל זָ֑רֶד וַֽנַּעֲבֹ֖ר אֶת־ נַ֥חַל זָֽרֶד׃ ‘at·tāh qu·mū wə·‘iḇ·rū lā·ḵem ’eṯ- na·ḥal zā·reḏ wan·na·‘ă·ḇōr ’eṯ- na·ḥal zā·reḏWLC · 13

The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the Brook of Zered was thirty-eight… years, until that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.

𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤋𐤊𐤍𐤅 𐤌𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤁𐤓𐤍𐤏 𐤏𐤃 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤍𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤍𐤇𐤋 𐤆𐤓𐤃 𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤍𐤄 𐤔𐤍𐤄 𐤏𐤃 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤃𐤅𐤓 𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉 𐤕𐤌 𐤌𐤒𐤓𐤁 𐤄𐤌𐤇𐤍𐤄 𐤊𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤍𐤔𐤁𐤏 𐤋𐤄𐤌

וְהַיָּמִ֞ים אֲשֶׁר־ הָלַ֣כְנוּ׀ מִקָּדֵ֣שׁ בַּרְנֵ֗עַ עַ֤ד אֲשֶׁר־ עָבַ֙רְנוּ֙ אֶת־ נַ֣חַל זֶ֔רֶד שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה שָׁנָ֑ה עַד־ כָּל־ הַדּ֜וֹר הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ אַנְשֵׁ֤י תֹּ֨ם מִקֶּ֣רֶב הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר יְהוָ֖ה נִשְׁבַּ֥ע לָהֶֽם׃ wə·hay·yā·mîm ’ă·šer- hā·laḵ·nū miq·qā·ḏêš bar·nê·a‘ ‘aḏ ’ă·šer- ‘ā·ḇar·nū ’eṯ- na·ḥal ze·reḏ šə·lō·šîm ū·šə·mō·neh šā·nāh ‘aḏ- kāl- had·dō·wr ham·mil·ḥā·māh ’an·šê tōm miq·qe·reḇ ham·ma·ḥă·neh ka·’ă·šer Yah·weh niš·ba‘ lā·hemWLC · 14

Indeed, the LORD’s hand was against them, to eliminate them from the camp, until they had all perished.

𐤅𐤂𐤌 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤉𐤃 𐤄𐤉𐤕𐤄 𐤁𐤌 𐤋𐤄𐤌𐤌 𐤌𐤒𐤓𐤁 𐤄𐤌𐤇𐤍𐤄 𐤏𐤃 𐤕𐤌𐤌

וְגַ֤ם יְהוָה֙ יַד־ הָ֣יְתָה בָּ֔ם לְהֻמָּ֖ם מִקֶּ֣רֶב הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה עַ֖ד תֻּמָּֽם׃ wə·ḡam Yah·weh yaḏ- hā·yə·ṯāh bām lə·hum·mām miq·qe·reḇ ham·ma·ḥă·neh ‘aḏ tum·māmWLC · 15

Now when… all the fighting men among the people had died,

𐤅𐤉𐤄𐤉 𐤊𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤕𐤌𐤅 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉 𐤌𐤒𐤓𐤁 𐤄𐤏𐤌𐤎 𐤋𐤌𐤅𐤕

וַיְהִ֨י כַאֲשֶׁר־ תַּ֜מּוּ כָּל־ הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה אַנְשֵׁ֧י מִקֶּ֥רֶב הָעָֽם׃ס לָמ֖וּת way·hî ḵa·’ă·šer- tam·mū kāl- ham·mil·ḥā·māh ’an·šê miq·qe·reḇ hā·‘ām lā·mūṯWLC · 16

the LORD said to me…,

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

יְהוָ֖ה וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃ Yah·weh way·ḏab·bêr ’ê·lay lê·mōrWLC · 17

“Today you are going to cross the border of Moab at Ar.

𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤏𐤁𐤓 𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤋 𐤌𐤅𐤀𐤁 𐤀𐤕 𐤏𐤓

הַיּ֛וֹם אֶת־ אַתָּ֨ה עֹבֵ֥ר גְּב֥וּל מוֹאָ֖ב אֶת־ עָֽר׃ hay·yō·wm ’eṯ- ’at·tāh ‘ō·ḇêr gə·ḇūl mō·w·’āḇ ’eṯ- ‘ārWLC · 18

But when you get close to the Ammonites…, do not harass them… or provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the Ammonites… -. I have given it to the descendants of Lot as [their] possession.”

[They were] a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites. But the LORD destroyed them from before [the Ammonites], who drove them out and settled in their place,

just as He had done for the descendants of Esau who lived in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.

“Arise, set out, and cross the Arnon Valley. See, I have delivered into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.

This very day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon all vvv the nations under heaven. They will hear the reports of you and tremble in anguish because of you.”

So from the Wilderness of Kedemoth I sent messengers with an offer of peace to Sihon king of Heshbon, saying,

“Let us pass through your land; we will stay on the main road… We will not turn to the right or to the left.

You can sell us food to eat [and] water to drink in exchange for silver. Only let us pass through on foot,

But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through, for the LORD your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as is the case this day.

סִיחֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן אָבָ֗ה וְלֹ֣א הַעֲבִרֵ֖נוּ בּ֑וֹ כִּֽי־ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ אֶת־ רוּח֗וֹ הִקְשָׁה֩ לְבָב֔וֹ וְאִמֵּץ֙ אֶת־ לְמַ֛עַן תִּתּ֥וֹ בְיָדְךָ֖ הַזֶּֽה׃ס כַּיּ֥וֹם sî·ḥōn me·leḵ ḥeš·bō·wn ’ā·ḇāh wə·lō ha·‘ă·ḇi·rê·nū bōw kî- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā ’eṯ- rū·ḥōw hiq·šāh lə·ḇā·ḇōw wə·’im·mêṣ ’eṯ- lə·ma·‘an tit·tōw ḇə·yā·ḏə·ḵā haz·zeh kay·yō·wmWLC · 30

Then the LORD said to me, “See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”

So Sihon and his whole army came out for battle against us at Jahaz.

And the LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we defeated him - and his sons and his whole army.

At that time we captured all his cities and devoted to destruction the people of every city, including women and children. We left no survivors.

We carried off for ourselves only the livestock and the plunder from the cities we captured.

From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the valley, even as far as Gilead, not one city [had walls] too high for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them.

But… you did not go near the land of the Ammonites…, or [the land] along the banks of the Jabbok River, or the cities of the hill country, or any place that the LORD our God had forbidden.
