How Many Are Your Works, O LORD!

Bless the LORD, O my soul -! O LORD my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty.
𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤌𐤀𐤃 𐤂𐤃𐤋𐤕 𐤋𐤁𐤔𐤕 𐤄𐤅𐤃 𐤅𐤄𐤃𐤓
בָּרֲכִ֥י יְה֫וָ֥ה נַפְשִׁ֗י אֶת־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱ֭לֹהַי מְּאֹ֑ד גָּדַ֣לְתָּ לָבָֽשְׁתָּ׃ ה֭וֹד וְהָדָ֣ר bā·ră·ḵî Yah·weh nap̄·šî ’eṯ- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hay mə·’ōḏ gā·ḏal·tā lā·ḇā·šə·tā hō·wḏ wə·hā·ḏār — WLC · 1

He wraps Himself in light as [with] a garment; He stretches out the heavens like a tent,

עֹֽטֶה־ א֭וֹר כַּשַּׂלְמָ֑ה נוֹטֶ֥ה שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם כַּיְרִיעָֽה׃ ‘ō·ṭeh- ’ō·wr kaś·śal·māh nō·w·ṭeh šā·ma·yim kay·rî·‘āh — WLC · 2

laying the beams of His chambers in the waters above, making the clouds His chariot, walking on the wings of the wind.

הַ֥מְקָרֶֽה עֲֽלִיּ֫וֹתָ֥יו בַמַּ֗יִם הַשָּׂם־ עָבִ֥ים רְכוּב֑וֹ הַֽ֝מְהַלֵּ֗ךְ עַל־ כַּנְפֵי־ רֽוּחַ׃ ham·qā·reh ‘ălî·yō·w·ṯāw ḇam·ma·yim haś·śām- ‘ā·ḇîm rə·ḵū·ḇōw ham·hal·lêḵ ‘al- kan·p̄ê- rū·aḥ — WLC · 3

He makes the winds His messengers, flames of fire His servants.

עֹשֶׂ֣ה רוּח֑וֹת מַלְאָכָ֣יו לֹהֵֽט׃ אֵ֣שׁ מְ֝שָׁרְתָ֗יו ‘ō·śeh rū·ḥō·wṯ mal·’ā·ḵāw lō·hêṭ ’êš mə·šā·rə·ṯāw — WLC · 4

He set the earth on its foundations, never… to be moved.

יָֽסַד־ אֶ֭רֶץ עַל־ מְכוֹנֶ֑יהָ בַּל־ עוֹלָ֥ם וָעֶֽד׃ תִּ֝מּ֗וֹט yā·saḏ- ’e·reṣ ‘al- mə·ḵō·w·ne·hā bal- ‘ō·w·lām wā·‘eḏ tim·mō·wṭ — WLC · 5

You covered it with the deep like a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.

כִּסִּית֑וֹ תְּ֭הוֹם כַּלְּב֣וּשׁ מָֽיִם׃ יַֽעַמְדוּ־ עַל־ הָ֝רִ֗ים kis·sî·ṯōw tə·hō·wm kal·lə·ḇūš mā·yim ya·‘am·ḏū- ‘al- hā·rîm — WLC · 6

At Your rebuke the waters fled; at the sound of Your thunder they hurried away—

מִן־ גַּעֲרָ֣תְךָ֣ יְנוּס֑וּן מִן־ ק֥וֹל רַֽ֝עַמְךָ֗ יֵחָפֵזֽוּן׃ min- ga·‘ă·rā·ṯə·ḵā yə·nū·sūn min- qō·wl ra·‘am·ḵā yê·ḥā·p̄ê·zūn — WLC · 7

the mountains rose and the valleys sank to the place… You assigned for them—

הָ֭רִים יַעֲל֣וּ בְקָע֑וֹת יֵרְד֣וּ אֶל־ מְ֝ק֗וֹם זֶ֤ה׀ יָסַ֬דְתָּ לָהֶֽם׃ hā·rîm ya·‘ă·lū ḇə·qā·‘ō·wṯ yê·rə·ḏū ’el- mə·qō·wm zeh yā·saḏ·tā lā·hem — WLC · 8

You set a boundary they cannot cross, that they may never again cover the earth.

שַׂ֭מְתָּ גְּֽבוּל־ בַּל־ יַֽעֲבֹר֑וּן בַּל־ יְ֝שׁוּב֗וּן לְכַסּ֥וֹת הָאָֽרֶץ׃ śam·tā gə·ḇū·l·śa- bal- ya·‘ă·ḇō·rūn bal- yə·šū·ḇūn lə·ḵas·sō·wṯ hā·’ā·reṣ — WLC · 9

He sends forth springs in the valleys; they flow between the mountains.

הַֽמְשַׁלֵּ֣חַ מַ֭עְיָנִים בַּנְּחָלִ֑ים יְהַלֵּכֽוּן׃ בֵּ֥ין הָ֝רִ֗ים ham·šal·lê·aḥ ma‘·yā·nîm ban·nə·ḥā·lîm yə·hal·lê·ḵūn bên hā·rîm — WLC · 10

They give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.

יַ֭שְׁקוּ כָּל־ חַיְת֣וֹ שָׂדָ֑י פְרָאִ֣ים יִשְׁבְּר֖וּ צְמָאָֽם׃ yaš·qū kāl- ḥay·ṯōw śā·ḏāy p̄ə·rā·’îm yiš·bə·rū ṣə·mā·’ām — WLC · 11

The birds of the air nest beside the springs; they sing… among the branches.

עוֹף־ הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם יִשְׁכּ֑וֹן עֲ֭לֵיהֶם יִתְּנוּ־ קֽוֹל׃ מִבֵּ֥ין עֳ֝פָאיִ֗ם ‘ō·wp̄- haš·šā·ma·yim yiš·kō·wn ‘ă·lê·hem yit·tə·nū- qō·wl mib·bên ‘o·p̄ā·yim — WLC · 12

He waters the mountains from His chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of His works.

מַשְׁקֶ֣ה הָ֭רִים מֵעֲלִיּוֹתָ֑יו הָאָֽרֶץ׃ תִּשְׂבַּ֥ע מִפְּרִ֥י מַ֝עֲשֶׂ֗יךָ maš·qeh hā·rîm mê·‘ă·lî·yō·w·ṯāw hā·’ā·reṣ tiś·ba‘ mip·pə·rî ma·‘ă·śe·ḵā — WLC · 13

He makes the grass grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, bringing forth food from the earth:

חָצִ֨יר׀ מַצְמִ֤יחַ לַבְּהֵמָ֗ה וְ֭עֵשֶׂב הָאָדָ֑ם לַעֲבֹדַ֣ת לְה֥וֹצִיא לֶ֝֗חֶם מִן־ הָאָֽרֶץ׃ ḥā·ṣîr maṣ·mî·aḥ lab·bə·hê·māh wə·‘ê·śeḇ hā·’ā·ḏām la·‘ă·ḇō·ḏaṯ lə·hō·w·ṣî le·ḥem min- hā·’ā·reṣ — WLC · 14

wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil that makes his face to shine, and bread that sustains [his] heart.

וְיַ֤יִן׀ יְשַׂמַּ֬ח לְֽבַב־ אֱנ֗וֹשׁ מִשָּׁ֑מֶן פָּנִ֣ים לְהַצְהִ֣יל וְ֝לֶ֗חֶם יִסְעָֽד׃ אֱנ֥וֹשׁ לְֽבַב־ wə·ya·yin yə·śam·maḥ lə·ḇaḇ- ’ĕ·nō·wōš miš·šā·men pā·nîm lə·haṣ·hîl wə·le·ḥem yis·‘āḏ ’ĕ·nō·wōš lə·ḇaḇ- — WLC · 15

The trees of the LORD have their fill, the cedars of Lebanon that He planted,
𐤏𐤑𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤏𐤅 𐤀𐤓𐤆𐤉 𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤅𐤍 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤍𐤈𐤏
עֲצֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה יִ֭שְׂבְּעוּ אַֽרְזֵ֥י לְ֝בָנ֗וֹן אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָטָֽע׃ ‘ă·ṣê Yah·weh yiś·bə·‘ū ’ar·zê lə·ḇā·nō·wn ’ă·šer nā·ṭā‘ — WLC · 16

where the birds build their nests; the stork makes her home in the cypresses.

אֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֭ם צִפֳּרִ֣ים יְקַנֵּ֑נוּ חֲ֝סִידָ֗ה בֵּיתָֽהּ׃ בְּרוֹשִׁ֥ים ’ă·še·rō·šā- šām ṣip·po·rîm yə·qan·nê·nū ḥă·sî·ḏāh bê·ṯāh bə·rō·wō·šîm — WLC · 17

The high mountains are for the wild goats, the cliffs a refuge for the rock badgers.

הַ֭גְּבֹהִים הָרִ֣ים לַיְּעֵלִ֑ים סְ֝לָעִ֗ים מַחְסֶ֥ה לַֽשְׁפַנִּֽים׃ hag·gə·ḇō·hîm hā·rîm lay·yə·‘ê·lîm sə·lā·‘îm maḥ·seh laš·p̄an·nîm — WLC · 18

He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows when to set.

עָשָׂ֣ה יָ֭רֵחַ לְמוֹעֲדִ֑ים שֶׁ֝֗מֶשׁ יָדַ֥ע מְבוֹאֽוֹ׃ ‘ā·śāh yā·rê·aḥ lə·mō·w·‘ă·ḏîm meš yā·ḏa‘ mə·ḇō·w·’ōw — WLC · 19

You bring darkness, and it becomes night when all the beasts of the forest prowl.

תָּֽשֶׁת־ חֹ֭שֶׁךְ וִ֣יהִי לָ֑יְלָה בּֽוֹ־ כָּל־ חַיְתוֹ־ יָֽעַר׃ תִ֝רְמֹ֗שׂ tā·šeṯ- ḥō·šeḵ wî·hî lā·yə·lāh bōw- kāl- ḥay·ṯōw- yā·‘ar ṯir·mōś — WLC · 20

The young lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.

הַ֭כְּפִירִים שֹׁאֲגִ֣ים לַטָּ֑רֶף וּלְבַקֵּ֖שׁ אָכְלָֽם׃ מֵאֵ֣ל hak·kə·p̄î·rîm šō·’ă·ḡîm laṭ·ṭā·rep̄ ū·lə·ḇaq·qêš ’ā·ḵə·lām mê·’êl — WLC · 21

The sun rises, and they withdraw; they lie down in their dens.

הַ֭שֶּׁמֶשׁ תִּזְרַ֣ח יֵאָסֵפ֑וּן יִרְבָּצֽוּן׃ וְאֶל־ מְ֝עוֹנֹתָ֗ם haš·še·meš tiz·raḥ yê·’ā·sê·p̄ūn yir·bā·ṣūn wə·’el- mə·‘ō·w·nō·ṯām — WLC · 22

Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until evening.

אָדָ֣ם יֵצֵ֣א לְפָעֳל֑וֹ וְֽלַעֲבֹ֖דָת֣וֹ עֲדֵי־ עָֽרֶב׃ ’ā·ḏām yê·ṣê lə·p̄ā·‘o·lōw wə·la·‘ă·ḇō·ḏā·ṯōw ‘ă·ḏê- ‘ā·reḇ — WLC · 23

How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures.

מָֽה־ רַבּ֬וּ מַעֲשֶׂ֨יךָ׀ יְֽהוָ֗ה בְּחָכְמָ֣ה עָשִׂ֑יתָ כֻּ֭לָּם הָ֝אָ֗רֶץ מָלְאָ֥ה קִנְיָנֶֽךָ׃ māh- rab·bū ma·‘ă·śe·ḵā Yah·weh bə·ḥā·ḵə·māh ‘ā·śî·ṯā kul·lām hā·’ā·reṣ mā·lə·’āh qin·yā·ne·ḵā — WLC · 24

Here is the sea, vast and wide…,… teeming with creatures beyond number…, living things both great and small.

זֶ֤ה׀ הַיָּ֥ם גָּדוֹל֮ וּרְחַ֪ב יָ֫דָ֥יִם שָֽׁם־ רֶ֭מֶשׂ וְאֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר חַיּ֥וֹת גְּדֹלֽוֹת׃ עִם־ קְ֝טַנּ֗וֹת zeh hay·yām gā·ḏō·wl ū·rə·ḥaḇ yā·ḏā·yim šām- re·meś wə·’ên mis·pār ḥay·yō·wṯ gə·ḏō·lō·wṯ ‘im- qə·ṭan·nō·wṯ — WLC · 25

There the ships pass, and Leviathan, which You formed to frolic there.

שָׁ֭ם אֳנִיּ֣וֹת יְהַלֵּכ֑וּן לִ֝וְיָתָ֗ן זֶֽה־ יָצַ֥רְתָּ לְשַֽׂחֶק־ בּֽוֹ׃ šām ’o·nî·yō·wṯ yə·hal·lê·ḵūn liw·yā·ṯān zeh- yā·ṣar·tā lə·śa·ḥeq- bōw — WLC · 26

All [creatures] look to You to give [them] their food in due season.

כֻּ֭לָּם יְשַׂבֵּר֑וּן אֵלֶ֣יךָ לָתֵ֖ת אָכְלָ֣ם בְּעִתּֽוֹ׃ kul·lām yə·śab·bê·rūn ’ê·le·ḵā lā·ṯêṯ ’ā·ḵə·lām bə·‘it·tōw — WLC · 27

When You give it to them, they gather it up; when You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good things.

תִּתֵּ֣ן לָ֭הֶם יִלְקֹט֑וּן תִּפְתַּ֥ח יָֽ֝דְךָ֗ יִשְׂבְּע֥וּן טֽוֹב׃ tit·tên lā·hem yil·qō·ṭūn tip̄·taḥ yā·ḏə·ḵā yiś·bə·‘ūn ṭō·wḇ — WLC · 28

When You hide Your face, they are terrified; when You take away their breath, they die and return to dust.

תַּסְתִּ֥יר פָּנֶיךָ֮ יִֽבָּהֵ֫ל֥וּן תֹּסֵ֣ף ר֭וּחָם יִגְוָע֑וּן יְשׁוּבֽוּן׃ וְֽאֶל־ עֲפָרָ֥ם tas·tîr pā·ne·ḵā yib·bā·hê·lūn tō·sêp̄ rū·ḥām yiḡ·wā·‘ūn yə·šū·ḇūn wə·’el- ‘ă·p̄ā·rām — WLC · 29

When You send Your Spirit, they are created, and You renew the face of the earth.

I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
