Chapter 114
A Psalm of Exodus
1
When Israel departed from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,

יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל בְּצֵ֣את מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם בֵּ֥ית יַ֝עֲקֹ֗ב מֵעַ֥ם לֹעֵֽז׃ yiś·rā·’êl bə·ṣêṯ mim·miṣ·rā·yim bêṯ ya·‘ă·qōḇ mê·‘am lō·‘êz — WLC · 1

Judah became [God’s] sanctuary, Israel His dominion.

The sea observed and fled; the Jordan turned back;

the mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs…

הֶֽ֭הָרִים רָקְד֣וּ כְאֵילִ֑ים גְּ֝בָע֗וֹת כִּבְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃ he·hā·rîm rā·qə·ḏū ḵə·’ê·lîm gə·ḇā·‘ō·wṯ kiḇ·nê- ṣōn — WLC · 4

Why was it O sea, that you fled, O Jordan, that you turned back,

מַה־ לְּךָ֣ הַ֭יָּם כִּ֣י תָנ֑וּס הַ֝יַּרְדֵּ֗ן תִּסֹּ֥ב לְאָחֽוֹר׃ mah- lə·ḵā hay·yām kî ṯā·nūs hay·yar·dên tis·sōḇ lə·’ā·ḥō·wr — WLC · 5

O mountains, that you skipped like rams, O hills, like lambs…?

הֶֽ֭הָרִים תִּרְקְד֣וּ כְאֵילִ֑ים גְּ֝בָע֗וֹת כִּבְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃ he·hā·rîm tir·qə·ḏū ḵə·’ê·lîm gə·ḇā·‘ō·wṯ kiḇ·nê- ṣōn — WLC · 6

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

ח֣וּלִי אָ֑רֶץ מִלִּפְנֵ֣י אָ֭דוֹן מִ֝לִּפְנֵ֗י אֱל֣וֹהַּ יַעֲקֹֽב׃ ḥū·lî ’ā·reṣ mil·lip̄·nê ’ā·ḏō·wn mil·lip̄·nê ’ĕ·lō·w·ah ya·‘ă·qōḇ — WLC · 7

who turned the rock into a pool…, the flint into a fountain of water!
