Hear My Righteous Plea
1
A prayer of David. 1Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer— [it comes] from lips free of deceit.

תְּפִלָּ֗ה לְדָ֫וִ֥ד שִׁמְעָ֤ה יְהוָ֨ה׀ צֶ֗דֶק הַקְשִׁ֥יבָה רִנָּתִ֗י הַאֲזִ֥ינָה תְפִלָּתִ֑י שִׂפְתֵ֥י בְּ֝לֹ֗א מִרְמָֽה׃ tə·p̄il·lāh lə·ḏā·wiḏ šim·‘āh Yah·weh ṣe·ḏeq haq·šî·ḇāh rin·nā·ṯî ha·’ă·zî·nāh ṯə·p̄il·lā·ṯî śip̄·ṯê bə·lō mir·māh — WLC · 1

May my vindication come from Your presence; may Your eyes see what is right.

מִשְׁפָּטִ֣י יֵצֵ֑א מִ֭לְּפָנֶיךָ עֵ֝ינֶ֗יךָ תֶּחֱזֶ֥ינָה מֵישָׁרִֽים׃ miš·pā·ṭî yê·ṣê mil·lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā ‘ê·ne·ḵā te·ḥĕ·ze·nāh mê·šā·rîm — WLC · 2

You have tried my heart; You have visited [me] in the night. You have tested me and found no [evil]; I have resolved not to sin with my mouth.

בָּ֘חַ֤נְתָּ לִבִּ֨י׀ פָּ֘קַ֤דְתָּ לַּ֗יְלָה צְרַפְתַּ֥נִי תִּמְצָ֑א בַל־ זַ֝מֹּתִ֗י בַּל־ יַעֲבָר־ פִּֽי׃ bā·ḥan·tā lib·bî pā·qaḏ·tā lay·lāh ṣə·rap̄·ta·nî tim·ṣā ḇal- zam·mō·ṯî bal- ya·‘ă·ḇār- pî — WLC · 3

As for the deeds of men— by the word of Your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.

לִפְעֻלּ֣וֹת אָ֭דָם בִּדְבַ֣ר שְׂפָתֶ֑יךָ אֲנִ֥י שָׁ֝מַ֗רְתִּי אָרְח֥וֹת פָּרִֽיץ׃ lip̄·‘ul·lō·wṯ ’ā·ḏām biḏ·ḇar śə·p̄ā·ṯe·ḵā ’ă·nî šā·mar·tî ’ā·rə·ḥō·wṯ pā·rîṣ — WLC · 4

My steps have held to Your paths; my feet have not slipped.

אֲ֭שֻׁרַי תָּמֹ֣ךְ בְּמַעְגְּלוֹתֶ֑יךָ פְעָמָֽי׃ בַּל־ נָמ֥וֹטּוּ ’ă·šu·ray tā·mōḵ bə·ma‘·gə·lō·w·ṯe·ḵā p̄ə·‘ā·māy bal- nā·mō·wṭ·ṭū — WLC · 5

I call on You, O God, for You will answer me. Incline Your ear to me; hear my words.

אֲנִֽי־ קְרָאתִ֣יךָ אֵ֑ל כִֽי־ תַעֲנֵ֣נִי הַֽט־ אָזְנְךָ֥ לִ֝֗י שְׁמַ֣ע אִמְרָתִֽי׃ ’ă·nî- qə·rā·ṯî·ḵā ’êl ḵî- ṯa·‘ă·nê·nî haṭ- ’ā·zə·nə·ḵā lî šə·ma‘ ’im·rā·ṯî — WLC · 6

Show the wonders of Your loving devotion, You who save by Your right hand those who seek refuge from their foes.

הַפְלֵ֣ה חֲ֭סָדֶיךָ מוֹשִׁ֣יעַ בִּֽימִינֶֽךָ׃ חוֹסִ֑ים מִ֝מִּתְקוֹמְמִ֗ים hap̄·lêh ḥă·sā·ḏe·ḵā mō·wō·šî·a‘ bî·mî·ne·ḵā ḥō·w·sîm mim·miṯ·qō·wm·mîm — WLC · 7

Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings

שָׁ֭מְרֵנִי כְּאִישׁ֣וֹן בַּת־ עָ֑יִן תַּסְתִּירֵֽנִי׃ בְּצֵ֥ל כְּ֝נָפֶ֗יךָ šā·mə·rē·nî kə·’î·šō·wn baṯ- ‘ā·yin tas·tî·rê·nî bə·ṣêl kə·nā·p̄e·ḵā — WLC · 8

from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me…

מִפְּנֵ֣י רְ֭שָׁעִים ז֣וּ שַׁדּ֑וּנִי בְּ֝נֶ֗פֶשׁ אֹיְבַ֥י יַקִּ֥יפוּ עָלָֽי׃ mip·pə·nê rə·šā·‘îm zū šad·dū·nî bə·ne·p̄eš ’ō·yə·ḇay yaq·qî·p̄ū ‘ā·lāy — WLC · 9

They have closed their callous [hearts]; their mouths speak with arrogance.

סָּגְר֑וּ חֶלְבָּ֥מוֹ פִּ֝֗ימוֹ דִּבְּר֥וּ בְגֵאֽוּת׃ sā·ḡə·rū ḥel·bā·mōw pî·mōw dib·bə·rū ḇə·ḡê·’ūṯ — WLC · 10

They have tracked us down, and now surround us; their eyes are set to cast [us] to the ground,
𐤀𐤔𐤓𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤏𐤕𐤄 𐤎𐤁𐤁𐤅𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤉𐤔𐤉𐤕𐤅 𐤋𐤍𐤈𐤅𐤕 𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑
אַ֭שֻּׁרֵינוּ עַתָּ֣ה סְבָבוּנִי עֵינֵיהֶ֥ם יָ֝שִׁ֗יתוּ לִנְט֥וֹת בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ ’aš·šu·rê·nū ‘at·tāh sə·ḇå̄·ḇū·nī ‘ê·nê·hem yā·šî·ṯū lin·ṭō·wṯ bā·’ā·reṣ — WLC · 11

- like a lion greedy for prey, like a young lion lurking in ambush.
𐤃𐤌𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤊𐤀𐤓𐤉𐤄 𐤉𐤊𐤎𐤅𐤐 𐤋𐤈𐤓𐤅𐤐 𐤅𐤊𐤊𐤐𐤉𐤓 𐤉𐤔𐤁 𐤁𐤌𐤎𐤕𐤓𐤉𐤌
דִּמְיֹנ֗וֹ כְּ֭אַרְיֵה יִכְס֣וֹף לִטְר֑וֹף וְ֝כִכְפִ֗יר יֹשֵׁ֥ב בְּמִסְתָּרִֽים׃ dim·yō·nōw kə·’ar·yêh yiḵ·sō·wp̄ liṭ·rō·wp̄ wə·ḵiḵ·p̄îr yō·šêḇ bə·mis·tā·rîm — WLC · 12

Arise, O LORD, confront them! Bring them to their knees; deliver me from the wicked by Your sword,
𐤒𐤅𐤌𐤄 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤒𐤃𐤌𐤄 𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤄𐤊𐤓𐤉𐤏𐤄𐤅 𐤐𐤋𐤈𐤄 𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤉 𐤌𐤓𐤔𐤏 𐤇𐤓𐤁𐤊
קוּמָ֤ה יְהוָ֗ה קַדְּמָ֣ה פָ֭נָיו הַכְרִיעֵ֑הוּ פַּלְּטָ֥ה נַ֝פְשִׁ֗י מֵרָשָׁ֥ע חַרְבֶּֽךָ׃ qū·māh Yah·weh qad·də·māh p̄ā·nāw haḵ·rî·‘ê·hū pal·lə·ṭāh nap̄·šî mê·rā·šā‘ ḥar·be·ḵā — WLC · 13

from such men, O LORD, by Your hand— from men of the world whose portion is in this life. May You fill the bellies of Your treasured [ones] and satisfy their sons, so they leave their abundance to their children.

מִֽמְתִ֥ים יְהוָ֡ה יָדְךָ֨׀ מִֽמְתִ֬ים מֵחֶ֗לֶד חֶלְקָ֥ם בַּֽחַיִּים֮ תְּמַלֵּ֪א בִ֫טְנָ֥ם וּצְפִינְךָ יִשְׂבְּע֥וּ בָנִ֑ים וְהִנִּ֥יחוּ יִ֝תְרָ֗ם לְעוֹלְלֵיהֶֽם׃ mim·ṯîm Yah·weh yā·ḏə·ḵā mim·ṯîm mê·ḥe·leḏ ḥel·qām ba·ḥay·yîm tə·mal·lê ḇiṭ·nām ū·ṣə·p̄ī·nə·ḵå̄ yiś·bə·‘ū ḇā·nîm wə·hin·nî·ḥū yiṯ·rām lə·‘ō·wl·lê·hem — WLC · 14

As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness; when I awake, I will be satisfied in Your presence.

אֲנִ֗י אֶחֱזֶ֣ה פָנֶ֑יךָ בְּ֭צֶדֶק בְ֝הָקִ֗יץ אֶשְׂבְּעָ֥ה תְּמוּנָתֶֽךָ׃ ’ă·nî ’e·ḥĕ·zeh p̄ā·ne·ḵā bə·ṣe·ḏeq ḇə·hā·qîṣ ’eś·bə·‘āh tə·mū·nā·ṯe·ḵā — WLC · 15
