Chapter 2

The Triumphant Messiah

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?

𐤋𐤌𐤄 𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤓𐤂𐤔𐤅 𐤅𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤄𐤂𐤅 𐤓𐤉𐤒

לָ֭מָּה גוֹיִ֑ם רָגְשׁ֣וּ וּ֝לְאֻמִּ֗ים יֶהְגּוּ־ רִֽיק׃ lām·māh ḡō·w·yim rā·ḡə·šū ū·lə·’um·mîm yeh·gū- rîqWLC · 1

The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together, against the LORD and against His Anointed One:

𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤉𐤕𐤉𐤑𐤁𐤅 𐤅𐤓𐤅𐤆𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤍𐤅𐤎𐤃𐤅 𐤉𐤇𐤃 𐤏𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤌𐤔𐤉𐤇𐤅

מַלְכֵי־ אֶ֗רֶץ יִ֥תְיַצְּב֨וּ׀ וְרוֹזְנִ֥ים נֽוֹסְדוּ־ יָ֑חַד עַל־ יְ֝הוָה וְעַל־ מְשִׁיחֽוֹ׃ mal·ḵê- ’e·reṣ yiṯ·yaṣ·ṣə·ḇū wə·rō·wz·nîm nō·ws·ḏū- yā·ḥaḏ ‘al- Yah·weh wə·‘al- mə·šî·ḥōwWLC · 2

“Let us break Their chains and cast away… Their cords.”

𐤍𐤍𐤕𐤒𐤄 𐤀𐤕 𐤌𐤅𐤎𐤓𐤅𐤕𐤉𐤌𐤅 𐤅𐤍𐤔𐤋𐤉𐤊𐤄 𐤌𐤌𐤍𐤅 𐤏𐤁𐤕𐤉𐤌𐤅

נְֽ֭נַתְּקָה אֶת־ מֽוֹסְרוֹתֵ֑ימוֹ וְנַשְׁלִ֖יכָה מִמֶּ֣נּוּ עֲבֹתֵֽימוֹ׃ nə·nat·tə·qāh ’eṯ- mō·ws·rō·w·ṯê·mōw wə·naš·lî·ḵāh mim·men·nū ‘ă·ḇō·ṯê·mōwWLC · 3

The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord taunts them -.

𐤉𐤅𐤔𐤁 𐤁𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤔𐤇𐤒 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤋𐤏𐤂 𐤋𐤌𐤅

יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בַּשָּׁמַ֣יִם יִשְׂחָ֑ק אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י יִלְעַג־ לָֽמוֹ׃ yō·wō·šêḇ baš·šā·ma·yim yiś·ḥāq ’ă·ḏō·nāy yil·‘aḡ- lā·mōwWLC · 4

Then He rebukes them in His anger, and terrifies them in His fury:

𐤀𐤆 𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤌𐤅 𐤁𐤀𐤐𐤅 𐤉𐤁𐤄𐤋𐤌𐤅 𐤅𐤁𐤇𐤓𐤅𐤍𐤅

אָ֤ז יְדַבֵּ֣ר אֵלֵ֣ימוֹ בְאַפּ֑וֹ יְבַהֲלֵֽמוֹ׃ וּֽבַחֲרוֹנ֥וֹ ’āz yə·ḏab·bêr ’ê·lê·mōw ḇə·’ap·pōw yə·ḇa·hă·lê·mōw ū·ḇa·ḥă·rō·w·nōwWLC · 5

“I have installed My King on Zion, [upon] My holy mountain.”

𐤅𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤍𐤎𐤊𐤕𐤉 𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤉 𐤏𐤋 𐤑𐤉𐤅𐤍 𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤉 𐤄𐤓

וַ֭אֲנִי נָסַ֣כְתִּי מַלְכִּ֑י עַל־ צִ֝יּ֗וֹן קָדְשִֽׁי׃ הַר־ wa·’ă·nî nā·saḵ·tî mal·kî ‘al- ṣî·yō·wn qāḏ·šî har-WLC · 6

I will proclaim… the decree spoken to Me by the LORD: “You [are] My Son; today I have become Your Father.

𐤀𐤎𐤐𐤓𐤄 𐤀𐤋 𐤇𐤒 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤕𐤉𐤊

אֲסַפְּרָ֗ה אֶֽ֫ל חֹ֥ק אָמַ֘ר אֵלַ֥י יְֽהוָ֗ה אַ֑תָּה בְּנִ֥י הַיּ֥וֹם אֲ֝נִ֗י יְלִדְתִּֽיךָ׃ ’ă·sap·pə·rāh ’el ḥōq ’ā·mar ’ê·lay Yah·weh ’at·tāh bə·nî hay·yō·wm ’ă·nî yə·liḏ·tî·ḵāWLC · 7

Ask Me, and I {will} make the nations Your inheritance, the ends of the earth Your possession.

𐤔𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤌𐤍𐤉 𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤍𐤄 𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤍𐤇𐤋𐤕𐤊 𐤀𐤐𐤎𐤉 𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤅𐤀𐤇𐤆𐤕𐤊

שְׁאַ֤ל מִמֶּ֗נִּי וְאֶתְּנָ֣ה ג֭וֹיִם נַחֲלָתֶ֑ךָ אַפְסֵי־ אָֽרֶץ׃ וַ֝אֲחֻזָּתְךָ֗ šə·’al mim·men·nî wə·’et·tə·nāh ḡō·w·yim na·ḥă·lā·ṯe·ḵā ’ap̄·sê- ’ā·reṣ wa·’ă·ḥuz·zā·ṯə·ḵāWLC · 8

You will break them with an iron scepter; You will shatter them like pottery…

𐤕𐤓𐤏𐤌 𐤁𐤓𐤆𐤋 𐤁𐤔𐤁𐤈 𐤕𐤍𐤐𐤑𐤌 𐤉𐤅𐤑𐤓 𐤊𐤊𐤋𐤉

תְּ֭רֹעֵם בַּרְזֶ֑ל בְּשֵׁ֣בֶט תְּנַפְּצֵֽם׃ יוֹצֵ֣ר כִּכְלִ֖י tə·rō·‘êm bar·zel bə·šê·ḇeṭ tə·nap·pə·ṣêm yō·w·ṣêr kiḵ·lîWLC · 9

Therefore be wise, O kings; be admonished, O judges of the earth.

𐤅𐤏𐤕𐤄 𐤄𐤔𐤊𐤉𐤋𐤅 𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤅𐤎𐤓𐤅 𐤔𐤐𐤈𐤉 𐤀𐤓𐤑

וְ֭עַתָּה הַשְׂכִּ֑ילוּ מְלָכִ֣ים הִ֝וָּסְר֗וּ שֹׁ֣פְטֵי אָֽרֶץ׃ wə·‘at·tāh haś·kî·lū mə·lā·ḵîm hiw·wā·sə·rū šō·p̄ə·ṭê ’ā·reṣWLC · 10

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤁𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤄 𐤅𐤂𐤉𐤋𐤅 𐤁𐤓𐤏𐤃𐤄

עִבְד֣וּ אֶת־ יְהוָ֣ה בְּיִרְאָ֑ה וְ֝גִ֗ילוּ בִּרְעָדָֽה׃ ‘iḇ·ḏū ’eṯ- Yah·weh bə·yir·’āh wə·ḡî·lū bir·‘ā·ḏāhWLC · 11

Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed [are] all who take refuge in Him.

𐤍𐤔𐤒𐤅 𐤁𐤓 𐤐𐤍 𐤉𐤀𐤍𐤐 𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤁𐤃𐤅 𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤐𐤅 𐤉𐤁𐤏𐤓 𐤊𐤌𐤏𐤈 𐤀𐤔𐤓𐤉 𐤊𐤋 𐤇𐤅𐤎𐤉 𐤁𐤅

נַשְּׁקוּ־ בַ֡ר פֶּן־ יֶאֱנַ֤ף׀ וְתֹ֬אבְדוּ דֶ֗רֶךְ כִּֽי־ אַפּ֑וֹ יִבְעַ֣ר כִּמְעַ֣ט אַ֝שְׁרֵ֗י כָּל־ ח֥וֹסֵי בֽוֹ׃ naš·šə·qū- ḇar pen- ye·’ĕ·nap̄ wə·ṯō·ḇə·ḏū ḏe·reḵ kî- ’ap·pōw yiḇ·‘ar kim·‘aṭ ’aš·rê kāl- ḥō·w·sê ḇōwWLC · 12
