The Day of Trouble

For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. 1May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִֽד׃ יְ֭הוָה יַֽעַנְךָ֣ בְּי֣וֹם צָרָ֑ה שֵׁ֤ם׀ אֱלֹהֵ֬י יַעֲקֹֽב׃ יְ֝שַׂגֶּבְךָ֗ lam·naṣ·ṣê·aḥ miz·mō·wr lə·ḏā·wiḏ Yah·weh ya·‘an·ḵā bə·yō·wm ṣā·rāh šêm ’ĕ·lō·hê ya·‘ă·qōḇ yə·śag·geḇ·ḵā — WLC · 1

May He send you help from the sanctuary and sustain you from Zion.

May He remember all your gifts and look favorably on your burnt offerings. Selah

יִזְכֹּ֥ר כָּל־ מִנְחֹתֶ֑ךָ יְדַשְּׁנֶ֣ה וְעוֹלָתְךָ֖ סֶֽלָה׃ yiz·kōr kāl- min·ḥō·ṯe·ḵā yə·ḏaš·šə·neh wə·‘ō·w·lā·ṯə·ḵā se·lāh — WLC · 3

May He give you the desires of your heart and make all your plans {succeed}.

יִֽתֶּן־ לְךָ֥ כִלְבָבֶ֑ךָ יְמַלֵּֽא׃ וְֽכָל־ עֲצָתְךָ֥ yit·ten- lə·ḵā ḵil·ḇā·ḇe·ḵā yə·mal·lê wə·ḵāl ‘ă·ṣā·ṯə·ḵā — WLC · 4

May we shout for joy at your victory and raise a banner in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your petitions.

נְרַנְּנָ֤ה׀ בִּ֘ישׁ֤וּעָתֶ֗ךָ נִדְגֹּ֑ל וּבְשֵֽׁם־ אֱלֹהֵ֥ינוּ יְ֝הוָ֗ה יְמַלֵּ֥א כָּל־ מִשְׁאֲלוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ nə·ran·nə·nāh bî·šū·‘ā·ṯe·ḵā niḏ·gōl ū·ḇə·šêm- ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū Yah·weh yə·mal·lê kāl- miš·’ă·lō·w·ṯe·ḵā — WLC · 5

Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed; He answers him from His holy heaven with the saving power of His right hand.

עַתָּ֤ה יָדַ֗עְתִּי כִּ֤י יְהוָ֗ה הוֹשִׁ֥יעַ׀ מְשִׁ֫יח֥וֹ יַ֭עֲנֵהוּ קָדְשׁ֑וֹ מִשְּׁמֵ֣י יֵ֣שַׁע בִּ֝גְבֻר֗וֹת יְמִינֽוֹ׃ ‘at·tāh yā·ḏa‘·tî kî Yah·weh hō·wō·šî·a‘ mə·šî·ḥōw ya·‘ă·nê·hū qā·ḏə·šōw miš·šə·mê yê·ša‘ biḡ·ḇu·rō·wṯ yə·mî·nōw — WLC · 6

Some [trust] in chariots and others in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

אֵ֣לֶּה בָ֭רֶכֶב וְאֵ֣לֶּה בַסּוּסִ֑ים וַאֲנַ֓חְנוּ׀ נַזְכִּֽיר׃ בְּשֵׁם־ יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣ינוּ ’êl·leh ḇā·re·ḵeḇ wə·’êl·leh ḇas·sū·sîm wa·’ă·naḥ·nū naz·kîr bə·šêm- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū — WLC · 7

They collapse and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.

הֵ֭מָּה כָּרְע֣וּ וְנָפָ֑לוּ וַאֲנַ֥חְנוּ קַּ֝֗מְנוּ וַנִּתְעוֹדָֽד׃ hêm·māh kā·rə·‘ū wə·nā·p̄ā·lū wa·’ă·naḥ·nū qam·nū wan·niṯ·‘ō·w·ḏāḏ — WLC · 8

O LORD, save the king. Answer us on the day we call.
