To You I Lift Up My Soul

Of David. 1To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul;
𐤋𐤃𐤅𐤃 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤀 𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤉
לְדָוִ֡ד אֵלֶ֥יךָ יְ֝הוָ֗ה אֶשָּֽׂא׃ נַפְשִׁ֥י lə·ḏā·wiḏ ’ê·le·ḵā Yah·weh ’eś·śā nap̄·šî — WLC · 1

in You, my God, I trust. Do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.

בְּךָ֣ אֱֽלֹהַ֗י בָ֭טַחְתִּי אַל־ אֵב֑וֹשָׁה אַל־ אֹיְבַ֣י יַֽעַלְצ֖וּ לִֽי׃ bə·ḵā ’ĕlō·hay ḇā·ṭaḥ·tî ’al- ’ê·ḇō·wō·šāh ’al- ’ō·yə·ḇay ya·‘al·ṣū lî — WLC · 2

Surely… none who wait for You will be put to shame; [but] those who engage in treachery without cause will be disgraced.

Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths.

הוֹדִיעֵ֑נִי דְּרָכֶ֣יךָ יְ֭הוָה לַמְּדֵֽנִי׃ אֹ֖רְחוֹתֶ֣יךָ hō·w·ḏî·‘ê·nî də·rā·ḵe·ḵā Yah·weh lam·mə·ḏê·nî ’ō·rə·ḥō·w·ṯe·ḵā — WLC · 4

Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; all day long I wait for You.

הַדְרִ֘יכֵ֤נִי בַאֲמִתֶּ֨ךָ׀ וְֽלַמְּדֵ֗נִי כִּֽי־ אַ֭תָּה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׁעִ֑י כָּל־ הַיּֽוֹם׃ קִ֝וִּ֗יתִי אוֹתְךָ֥ haḏ·rî·ḵê·nî ḇa·’ă·mit·te·ḵā wə·lam·mə·ḏê·nî kî- ’at·tāh ’ĕ·lō·hê yiš·‘î kāl- hay·yō·wm qiw·wî·ṯî ’ō·wṯ·ḵā — WLC · 5

Remember, O LORD, Your compassion and loving devotion, for they [are] from age to age.
𐤆𐤊𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤓𐤇𐤌𐤉𐤊 𐤅𐤇𐤎𐤃𐤉𐤊 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤌𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌
זְכֹר־ יְ֭הוָה רַחֲמֶ֣יךָ וַחֲסָדֶ֑יךָ כִּ֖י הֵֽמָּה׃ מֵעוֹלָ֣ם zə·ḵōr- Yah·weh ra·ḥă·me·ḵā wa·ḥă·sā·ḏe·ḵā kî hêm·māh mê·‘ō·w·lām — WLC · 6

Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my rebellious acts; remember me according to Your loving devotion,… because of Your goodness, O LORD.

תִּ֫זְכֹּ֥ר אַל־ חַטֹּ֤אות נְעוּרַ֨י׀ וּפְשָׁעַ֗י זְכָר־ לִי־ כְּחַסְדְּךָ֥ אַ֑תָּה לְמַ֖עַן טוּבְךָ֣ יְהוָֽה׃ tiz·kōr ’al- ḥaṭ·ṭō·wṯ nə·‘ū·ray ū·p̄ə·šā·‘ay zə·ḵār- lî- kə·ḥas·də·ḵā ’at·tāh lə·ma·‘an ṭū·ḇə·ḵā Yah·weh — WLC · 7

Good and upright [is] the LORD; therefore… He shows sinners the way.
𐤈𐤅𐤁 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤍 𐤉𐤅𐤓𐤄 𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊
טוֹב־ וְיָשָׁ֥ר יְהוָ֑ה עַל־ כֵּ֤ן יוֹרֶ֖ה חַטָּאִ֣ים בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃ ṭō·wḇ- wə·yā·šār Yah·weh ‘al- kên yō·w·reh ḥaṭ·ṭā·’îm bad·dā·reḵ — WLC · 8

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.
𐤉𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤏𐤍𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤌𐤔𐤐𐤈 𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤌𐤃 𐤏𐤍𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤅
יַדְרֵ֣ךְ עֲ֭נָוִים בַּמִּשְׁפָּ֑ט וִֽילַמֵּ֖ד עֲנָוִ֣ים דַּרְכּֽוֹ׃ yaḏ·rêḵ ‘ă·nā·wîm bam·miš·pāṭ wî·lam·mêḏ ‘ă·nā·wîm dar·kōw — WLC · 9

All the LORD’s ways [are] loving and faithful… to those who keep His covenant and His decrees.
𐤊𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤓𐤇𐤅𐤕 𐤇𐤎𐤃 𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤕 𐤋𐤍𐤑𐤓𐤉 𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤕𐤅 𐤅𐤏𐤃𐤕𐤉𐤅
כָּל־ יְ֭הוָה אָרְח֣וֹת חֶ֣סֶד וֶאֱמֶ֑ת לְנֹצְרֵ֥י בְ֝רִית֗וֹ וְעֵדֹתָֽיו׃ kāl- Yah·weh ’ā·rə·ḥō·wṯ ḥe·seḏ we·’ĕ·meṯ lə·nō·ṣə·rê ḇə·rî·ṯōw wə·‘ê·ḏō·ṯāw — WLC · 10

For the sake of Your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, for it is great.

לְמַֽעַן־ שִׁמְךָ֥ יְהוָ֑ה וְֽסָלַחְתָּ֥ לַ֝עֲוֺנִ֗י כִּ֣י הֽוּא׃ רַב־ lə·ma·‘an- šim·ḵā Yah·weh wə·sā·laḥ·tā la·‘ă·wō·nî kî hū raḇ- — WLC · 11

Who… is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the path chosen [for him].
𐤌𐤉 𐤆𐤄 𐤄𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤉𐤓𐤀 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤉𐤅𐤓𐤍𐤅 𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤉𐤁𐤇𐤓
מִי־ זֶ֣ה הָ֭אִישׁ יְרֵ֣א יְהוָ֑ה י֝וֹרֶ֗נּוּ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ יִבְחָֽר׃ mî- zeh hā·’îš yə·rê Yah·weh yō·w·ren·nū bə·ḏe·reḵ yiḇ·ḥār — WLC · 12
13
His soul will dwell in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land.
𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤅 𐤕𐤋𐤉𐤍 𐤁𐤈𐤅𐤁 𐤅𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤅 𐤉𐤉𐤓𐤔 𐤀𐤓𐤑
נַ֭פְשׁוֹ תָּלִ֑ין בְּט֣וֹב וְ֝זַרְע֗וֹ יִ֣ירַשׁ אָֽרֶץ׃ nap̄·šōw tā·lîn bə·ṭō·wḇ wə·zar·‘ōw yî·raš ’ā·reṣ — WLC · 13
14
The LORD confides in those who fear Him, and reveals His covenant to them.
𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤎𐤅𐤃 𐤋𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤅 𐤋𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤉𐤏𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤕𐤅
יְ֭הוָה ס֣וֹד לִירֵאָ֑יו לְהוֹדִיעָֽם׃ וּ֝בְרִית֗וֹ Yah·weh sō·wḏ lî·rê·’āw lə·hō·w·ḏî·‘ām ū·ḇə·rî·ṯōw — WLC · 14
15
My eyes are always on the LORD, for He will free my feet from the mesh.

עֵינַ֣י תָּ֭מִיד אֶל־ יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֤י הֽוּא־ יוֹצִ֖יא רַגְלָֽי׃ מֵרֶ֣שֶׁת ‘ê·nay tā·mîḏ ’el- Yah·weh kî hū- yō·w·ṣî raḡ·lāy mê·re·šeṯ — WLC · 15

Turn to me and be gracious, for I am lonely and afflicted.

פְּנֵה־ אֵלַ֥י וְחָנֵּ֑נִי כִּֽי־ אָֽנִי׃ יָחִ֖יד וְעָנִ֣י pə·nêh- ’ê·lay wə·ḥān·nê·nî kî- ’ā·nî yā·ḥîḏ wə·‘ā·nî — WLC · 16
17
The troubles of my heart increase; free me from my distress.

צָר֣וֹת לְבָבִ֣י הִרְחִ֑יבוּ הוֹצִיאֵֽנִי׃ מִ֝מְּצֽוּקוֹתַ֗י ṣā·rō·wṯ lə·ḇā·ḇî hir·ḥî·ḇū hō·w·ṣî·’ê·nî mim·mə·ṣū·qō·w·ṯay — WLC · 17

Consider my affliction and trouble, and take away all my sins.

Consider my enemies, for they are many, and they hate me with vicious hatred.

Guard my soul and deliver me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in You.

May integrity and uprightness preserve me, because I wait for You.

Redeem Israel, O God, from all its distress.
