Chapter 30

You Turned My Mourning into Dancing

A Psalm. A song for the dedication of the temple. Of David. 1I will exalt You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up and have not allowed my foes to rejoice over me.

𐤌𐤆𐤌𐤅𐤓 𐤔𐤉𐤓 𐤇𐤍𐤊𐤕 𐤄𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤋𐤃𐤅𐤃 𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤌𐤌𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤃𐤋𐤉𐤕𐤍𐤉 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤉𐤁𐤉 𐤔𐤌𐤇𐤕 𐤋𐤉

מִזְמ֡וֹר שִׁיר־ חֲנֻכַּ֖ת הַבַּ֣יִת לְדָוִֽד׃ אֲרוֹמִמְךָ֣ יְ֭הוָה כִּ֣י דִלִּיתָ֑נִי וְלֹא־ אֹיְבַ֣י שִׂמַּ֖חְתָּ לִֽי׃ miz·mō·wr šîr- ḥă·nuk·kaṯ hab·ba·yiṯ lə·ḏā·wiḏ ’ă·rō·w·mim·ḵā Yah·weh kî ḏil·lî·ṯā·nî wə·lō- ’ō·yə·ḇay śim·maḥ·tā lîWLC · 1

O LORD my God, {I cried} to You for help, and You healed me.

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤔𐤅𐤏𐤕𐤉 𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤐𐤀𐤍𐤉

יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָ֑י אֵ֝לֶ֗יךָ שִׁוַּ֥עְתִּי וַתִּרְפָּאֵֽנִי׃ Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hāy ’ê·le·ḵā šiw·wa‘·tî wat·tir·pā·’ê·nîWLC · 2

O LORD, You pulled me up from Sheol; You spared me from descending into the Pit.

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤉 𐤄𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤕 𐤌𐤍 𐤔𐤀𐤅𐤋 𐤇𐤉𐤉𐤕𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤉𐤅𐤓𐤃𐤉 𐤁𐤅𐤓

יְֽהוָ֗ה נַפְשִׁ֑י הֶֽעֱלִ֣יתָ מִן־ שְׁא֣וֹל חִ֝יִּיתַ֗נִי מִיּוֹרְדֵי בֽוֹר׃ Yah·weh nap̄·šî he·‘ĕ·lî·ṯā min- šə·’ō·wl ḥî·yî·ṯa·nî mī·yō·rə·ḏē ḇō·wrWLC · 3

Sing to the LORD, O you His saints, and praise His holy name.

𐤆𐤌𐤓𐤅 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤇𐤎𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤅 𐤅𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤅 𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤅 𐤋𐤆𐤊𐤓

זַמְּר֣וּ לַיהוָ֣ה חֲסִידָ֑יו וְ֝הוֹד֗וּ קָדְשֽׁוֹ׃ לְזֵ֣כֶר zam·mə·rū Yah·weh ḥă·sî·ḏāw wə·hō·w·ḏū qā·ḏə·šōw lə·zê·ḵerWLC · 4

For His anger is fleeting, but His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may stay the night, but joy [comes] in the morning.

כִּ֤י בְּאַפּוֹ֮ רֶ֨גַע׀ בִּרְצ֫וֹנ֥וֹ חַיִּ֪ים בֶּ֗כִי יָלִ֥ין בָּ֭עֶרֶב רִנָּֽה׃ וְלַבֹּ֥קֶר kî bə·’ap·pōw re·ḡa‘ bir·ṣō·w·nōw ḥay·yîm be·ḵî yā·lîn bā·‘e·reḇ rin·nāh wə·lab·bō·qerWLC · 5

In prosperity I said, “I will never… be shaken.”

𐤁𐤔𐤋𐤅𐤉 𐤅𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤁𐤋 𐤋𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤀𐤌𐤅𐤈

בְשַׁלְוִ֑י וַ֭אֲנִי אָמַ֣רְתִּי בַּל־ לְעוֹלָֽם׃ אֶמּ֥וֹט ḇə·šal·wî wa·’ă·nî ’ā·mar·tî bal- lə·‘ō·w·lām ’em·mō·wṭWLC · 6

O LORD, You favored me; You made my mountain {stand} strong. When You hid Your face, I was dismayed.

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤁𐤓𐤑𐤅𐤍𐤊 𐤄𐤏𐤌𐤃𐤕𐤄 𐤋𐤄𐤓𐤓𐤉 𐤏𐤆 𐤄𐤎𐤕𐤓𐤕 𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤊 𐤄𐤉𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤍𐤁𐤄𐤋

יְֽהוָ֗ה בִּרְצוֹנְךָ֮ הֶעֱמַ֪דְתָּה לְֽהַרְרִ֫י עֹ֥ז הִסְתַּ֥רְתָּ פָנֶ֗יךָ הָיִ֥יתִי נִבְהָֽל׃ Yah·weh bir·ṣō·wn·ḵā he·‘ĕ·maḏ·tāh lə·har·rî ‘ōz his·tar·tā p̄ā·ne·ḵā hā·yî·ṯî niḇ·hālWLC · 7

To You, O LORD, I called, and I begged my Lord {for mercy}:

𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤕𐤇𐤍𐤍 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉

אֵלֶ֣יךָ יְהוָ֣ה אֶקְרָ֑א וְאֶל־ אֶתְחַנָּֽן׃ אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י ’ê·le·ḵā Yah·weh ’eq·rā wə·’el- ’eṯ·ḥan·nān ’ă·ḏō·nāyWLC · 8

“What gain [is there] in my bloodshed, in my descent to the Pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it proclaim Your faithfulness?

𐤌𐤄 𐤁𐤑𐤏 𐤁𐤃𐤌𐤉 𐤁𐤓𐤃𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤋 𐤔𐤇𐤕 𐤏𐤐𐤓 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤃𐤊 𐤄𐤉𐤂𐤉𐤃 𐤀𐤌𐤕𐤊

מַה־ בֶּ֥צַע בְּדָמִי֮ בְּרִדְתִּ֪י אֶ֫ל־ שָׁ֥חַת עָפָ֑ר הֲיוֹדְךָ֥ הֲיַגִּ֥יד אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃ mah- be·ṣa‘ bə·ḏā·mî bə·riḏ·tî ’el- šā·ḥaṯ ‘ā·p̄ār hă·yō·wḏ·ḵā hă·yag·gîḏ ’ă·mit·te·ḵāWLC · 9

Hear me, O LORD, and have mercy; O LORD, be my helper

𐤔𐤌𐤏 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤇𐤍𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤏𐤆𐤓 𐤋𐤉

שְׁמַע־ יְהוָ֥ה וְחָנֵּ֑נִי יְ֝הוָה הֱ‍ֽיֵה־ עֹזֵ֥ר לִֽי׃ šə·ma‘- Yah·weh wə·ḥān·nê·nî haš·šēm hĕyêh- ‘ō·zêr lîWLC · 10

You turned my mourning into dancing You peeled off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,

𐤄𐤐𐤊𐤕 𐤌𐤎𐤐𐤃𐤉 𐤋𐤌𐤇𐤅𐤋 𐤋𐤉 𐤐𐤕𐤇𐤕 𐤔𐤒𐤉 𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤆𐤓𐤍𐤉 𐤔𐤌𐤇𐤄

הָפַ֣כְתָּ מִסְפְּדִי֮ לְמָח֪וֹל לִ֥י פִּתַּ֥חְתָּ שַׂקִּ֑י וַֽתְּאַזְּרֵ֥נִי שִׂמְחָֽה׃ hā·p̄aḵ·tā mis·pə·ḏî lə·mā·ḥō·wl lî pit·taḥ·tā śaq·qî wat·tə·’az·zə·rê·nî śim·ḥāhWLC · 11

that my heart may sing Your praises and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks forever.

לְמַ֤עַן׀ יְזַמֶּרְךָ֣ כָ֭בוֹד וְלֹ֣א יִדֹּ֑ם יְהוָ֥ה אֱ֝לֹהַ֗י אוֹדֶֽךָּ׃ לְעוֹלָ֥ם lə·ma·‘an yə·zam·mer·ḵā ḵā·ḇō·wḏ wə·lō yid·dōm Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hay ’ō·w·ḏe·kā lə·‘ō·w·lāmWLC · 12
