Chapter 43
Send Out Your Light

Vindicate me, O God, and plead my case against an ungodly… nation; deliver me from deceitful and unjust men.
𐤔𐤐𐤈𐤍𐤉 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤓𐤉𐤁𐤄 𐤓𐤉𐤁𐤉 𐤋𐤀 𐤇𐤎𐤉𐤃 𐤌𐤂𐤅𐤉 𐤕𐤐𐤋𐤈𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤓𐤌𐤄 𐤅𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤄 𐤌𐤀𐤉𐤔
שָׁפְטֵ֤נִי אֱלֹהִ֨ים׀ וְרִ֘יבָ֤ה רִיבִ֗י לֹא־ חָסִ֑יד מִגּ֥וֹי תְפַלְּטֵֽנִי׃ מִרְמָ֖ה וְעַוְלָ֣ה מֵ֤אִישׁ־ šā·p̄ə·ṭê·nî ’ĕ·lō·hîm wə·rî·ḇāh rî·ḇî lō- ḥā·sîḏ mig·gō·w ṯə·p̄al·lə·ṭê·nî mir·māh wə·‘aw·lāh mê·’îš- — WLC · 1

For You are the God of my refuge. Why have You rejected me? Why must I walk in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression?

כִּֽי־ אַתָּ֤ה׀ אֱלֹהֵ֣י מָֽעוּזִּי֮ לָמָ֪ה זְנַ֫חְתָּ֥נִי לָֽמָּה־ אֶתְהַלֵּ֗ךְ קֹדֵ֥ר אוֹיֵֽב׃ בְּלַ֣חַץ kî- ’at·tāh ’ĕ·lō·hê mā·‘ūz·zî lā·māh zə·naḥ·tā·nî lām·māh- ’eṯ·hal·lêḵ qō·ḏêr ’ō·w·yêḇ bə·la·ḥaṣ — WLC · 2

Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your holy mountain and to the place where You dwell.

שְׁלַח־ אוֹרְךָ֣ וַ֭אֲמִתְּךָ הֵ֣מָּה יַנְח֑וּנִי יְבִיא֥וּנִי אֶל־ קָ֝דְשְׁךָ֗ הַֽר־ וְאֶל־ מִשְׁכְּנוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ šə·laḥ- ’ō·wr·ḵā wa·’ă·mit·tə·ḵā hêm·māh yan·ḥū·nî yə·ḇî·’ū·nî ’el- qāḏ·šə·ḵā har- wə·’el- miš·kə·nō·w·ṯe·ḵā — WLC · 3

Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my greatest joy… I will praise You with the harp, O God, my God.

וְאָב֤וֹאָה׀ אֶל־ מִזְבַּ֬ח אֱלֹהִ֗ים אֶל־ אֵל֮ שִׂמְחַ֪ת גִּ֫ילִ֥י וְאוֹדְךָ֥ בְכִנּ֗וֹר אֱלֹהִ֥ים אֱלֹהָֽי׃ wə·’ā·ḇō·w·’āh ’el- miz·baḥ ’ĕ·lō·hîm ’el- ’êl śim·ḥaṯ gî·lî wə·’ō·wḏ·ḵā ḇə·ḵin·nō·wr ’ĕ·lō·hîm ’ĕ·lō·hāy — WLC · 4

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior… and my God.
