Chapter 2
The Mountain of the House of the LORD
1
[This is] the message that was revealed to Isaiah son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤇𐤆𐤄 𐤉𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤄𐤅 𐤁𐤍 𐤀𐤌𐤅𐤑 𐤏𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌
הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָזָ֔ה יְשַֽׁעְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־ אָמ֑וֹץ עַל־ יְהוּדָ֖ה וִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ had·dā·ḇār ’ă·šer ḥā·zāh yə·ša‘·yā·hū ben- ’ā·mō·wṣ ‘al- yə·hū·ḏāh wî·rū·šā·lim — WLC · 1

In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established… as the chief of the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.
𐤁𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤕 𐤄𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤓 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤍𐤊𐤅𐤍 𐤉𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤁𐤓𐤀𐤔 𐤄𐤄𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤍𐤔𐤀 𐤌𐤂𐤁𐤏𐤅𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤍𐤄𐤓𐤅 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤅
בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית הַיָּמִ֗ים הַ֤ר בֵּית־ יְהוָה֙ וְהָיָ֣ה׀ נָכ֨וֹן יִֽהְיֶ֜ה בְּרֹ֣אשׁ הֶהָרִ֔ים וְנִשָּׂ֖א מִגְּבָע֑וֹת כָּל־ הַגּוֹיִֽם׃ וְנָהֲר֥וּ אֵלָ֖יו bə·’a·ḥă·rîṯ hay·yā·mîm har bêṯ- Yah·weh wə·hā·yāh nā·ḵō·wn yih·yeh bə·rōš he·hā·rîm wə·niś·śā mig·gə·ḇā·‘ō·wṯ kāl- hag·gō·w·yim wə·nā·hă·rū ’ê·lāw — WLC · 2

And many peoples will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤋𐤊𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 𐤋𐤊𐤅 𐤅𐤍𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤍𐤅 𐤌𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤉𐤅 𐤅𐤍𐤋𐤊𐤄 𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤇𐤕𐤉𐤅 𐤊𐤉 𐤕𐤅𐤓𐤄 𐤕𐤑𐤀 𐤌𐤑𐤉𐤅𐤍 𐤅𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤌𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌
רַבִּ֗ים עַמִּ֣ים וְֽהָלְכ֞וּ וְאָמְרוּ֙ לְכ֣וּ׀ וְנַעֲלֶ֣ה אֶל־ הַר־ יְהוָ֗ה אֶל־ בֵּית֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יַעֲקֹ֔ב וְיֹרֵ֙נוּ֙ מִדְּרָכָ֔יו וְנֵלְכָ֖ה בְּאֹרְחֹתָ֑יו כִּ֤י תוֹרָ֔ה תֵּצֵ֣א מִצִּיּוֹן֙ וּדְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה מִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ rab·bîm ‘am·mîm wə·hā·lə·ḵū wə·’ā·mə·rū lə·ḵū wə·na·‘ă·leh ’el- har- Yah·weh ’el- bêṯ ’ĕ·lō·hê ya·‘ă·qōḇ wə·yō·rê·nū mid·də·rā·ḵāw wə·nê·lə·ḵāh bə·’ō·rə·ḥō·ṯāw kî ṯō·w·rāh tê·ṣê miṣ·ṣî·yō·wn ū·ḏə·ḇar- Yah·weh mî·rū·šā·lim — WLC · 3

Then He will judge between the nations and arbitrate for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer take up the sword against nation, nor train anymore for war.

וְשָׁפַט֙ בֵּ֣ין הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וְהוֹכִ֖יחַ רַבִּ֑ים לְעַמִּ֣ים וְכִתְּת֨וּ חַרְבוֹתָ֜ם לְאִתִּ֗ים וַחֲנִיתֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ לְמַזְמֵר֔וֹת ג֤וֹי לֹא־ יִשָּׂ֨א חֶ֔רֶב אֶל־ גּוֹי֙ וְלֹא־ יִלְמְד֥וּ ע֖וֹד מִלְחָמָֽה׃פ wə·šā·p̄aṭ bên hag·gō·w·yim wə·hō·w·ḵî·aḥ rab·bîm lə·‘am·mîm wə·ḵit·tə·ṯū ḥar·ḇō·w·ṯām lə·’it·tîm wa·ḥă·nî·ṯō·w·ṯê·hem lə·maz·mê·rō·wṯ ḡō·w lō- yiś·śā ḥe·reḇ ’el- gō·w wə·lō- yil·mə·ḏū ‘ō·wḏ mil·ḥā·māh — WLC · 4
The Day of Reckoning

Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.
𐤋𐤊𐤅 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 𐤅𐤍𐤋𐤊𐤄 𐤁𐤀𐤅𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄
לְכ֥וּ בֵּ֖ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְנֵלְכָ֖ה בְּא֥וֹר יְהוָֽה׃ lə·ḵū bêṯ ya·‘ă·qōḇ wə·nê·lə·ḵāh bə·’ō·wr Yah·weh — WLC · 5

For You have abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled [with influences] from the east; they are soothsayers like the Philistines; they strike [hands] with the children of foreigners.
𐤊𐤉 𐤍𐤈𐤔𐤕𐤄 𐤏𐤌𐤊 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 𐤊𐤉 𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤅 𐤌𐤒𐤃𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤍𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤐𐤋𐤔𐤕𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤔𐤐𐤉𐤒𐤅 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉 𐤍𐤊𐤓𐤉𐤌
כִּ֣י נָטַ֗שְׁתָּה עַמְּךָ֙ בֵּ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֔ב כִּ֤י מָלְאוּ֙ מִקֶּ֔דֶם וְעֹֽנְנִ֖ים כַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים יַשְׂפִּֽיקוּ׃ וּבְיַלְדֵ֥י נָכְרִ֖ים kî nā·ṭaš·tāh ‘am·mə·ḵā bêṯ ya·‘ă·qōḇ kî mā·lə·’ū miq·qe·ḏem wə·‘ō·nə·nîm kap·pə·liš·tîm yaś·pî·qū ū·ḇə·yal·ḏê nā·ḵə·rîm — WLC · 6

Their land is full of silver and gold, with no limit to their treasures; their land is full of horses, with no limit to their chariots.

אַרְצוֹ֙ וַתִּמָּלֵ֤א כֶּ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֔ב וְאֵ֥ין קֵ֖צֶה לְאֹצְרֹתָ֑יו אַרְצוֹ֙ וַתִּמָּלֵ֤א סוּסִ֔ים וְאֵ֥ין קֵ֖צֶה לְמַרְכְּבֹתָֽיו׃ ’ar·ṣōw wat·tim·mā·lê ke·sep̄ wə·zā·hāḇ wə·’ên qê·ṣeh lə·’ō·ṣə·rō·ṯāw ’ar·ṣōw wat·tim·mā·lê sū·sîm wə·’ên qê·ṣeh lə·mar·kə·ḇō·ṯāw — WLC · 7

Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made.

אַרְצ֖וֹ וַתִּמָּלֵ֥א אֱלִילִ֑ים יִֽשְׁתַּחֲו֔וּ לְמַעֲשֵׂ֤ה יָדָיו֙ לַאֲשֶׁ֥ר אֶצְבְּעֹתָֽיו׃ עָשׂ֖וּ ’ar·ṣōw wat·tim·mā·lê ’ĕ·lî·lîm yiš·ta·ḥă·wū lə·ma·‘ă·śêh yā·ḏāw la·’ă·šer ’eṣ·bə·‘ō·ṯāw ‘ā·śū — WLC · 8

So mankind is brought low, and man is humbled— do not forgive them!
𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤇 𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤐𐤋 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤔𐤀 𐤋𐤄𐤌
אָדָ֖ם וַיִּשַּׁ֥ח אִ֑ישׁ וַיִּשְׁפַּל־ וְאַל־ תִּשָּׂ֖א לָהֶֽם׃ ’ā·ḏām way·yiš·šaḥ ’îš way·yiš·pal- wə·’al- tiś·śā lā·hem — WLC · 9

Go into the rocks and hide in the dust from the terror of the LORD and the splendor of His majesty.

בּ֣וֹא בַצּ֔וּר וְהִטָּמֵ֖ן בֶּֽעָפָ֑ר מִפְּנֵי֙ פַּ֣חַד יְהוָ֔ה וּמֵהֲדַ֖ר גְּאֹנֽוֹ׃ bō·w ḇaṣ·ṣūr wə·hiṭ·ṭā·mên be·‘ā·p̄ār mip·pə·nê pa·ḥaḏ Yah·weh ū·mê·hă·ḏar gə·’ō·nōw — WLC · 10

The proud look of man will be humbled, and the loftiness of men brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

גַּבְה֤וּת עֵינֵ֞י אָדָם֙ שָׁפֵ֔ל ר֣וּם אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וְשַׁ֖ח יְהוָ֛ה לְבַדּ֖וֹ וְנִשְׂגַּ֧ב הַהֽוּא׃ס בַּיּ֥וֹם gaḇ·hūṯ ‘ê·nê ’ā·ḏām šā·p̄êl rūm ’ă·nā·šîm wə·šaḥ Yah·weh lə·ḇad·dōw wə·niś·gaḇ ha·hū bay·yō·wm — WLC · 11

For the Day of the LORD of Hosts [will come] against all the proud and lofty, against all that is exalted— it will be humbled—
𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤑𐤁𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤂𐤀𐤄 𐤅𐤓𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤍𐤔𐤀 𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤋
כִּ֣י י֞וֹם לַיהוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת עַ֥ל כָּל־ גֵּאֶ֖ה וָרָ֑ם וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ נִשָּׂ֥א וְשָׁפֵֽל׃ kî yō·wm Yah·weh ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ ‘al kāl- gê·’eh wā·rām wə·‘al kāl- niś·śā wə·šā·p̄êl — WLC · 12

against all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and lifted up, against all the oaks of Bashan,
𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤓𐤆𐤉 𐤄𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤅𐤍 𐤄𐤓𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤔𐤀𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤁𐤔𐤍
וְעַל֙ כָּל־ אַרְזֵ֣י הַלְּבָנ֔וֹן הָרָמִ֖ים וְהַנִּשָּׂאִ֑ים וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ אַלּוֹנֵ֥י הַבָּשָֽׁן׃ wə·‘al kāl- ’ar·zê hal·lə·ḇā·nō·wn hā·rā·mîm wə·han·niś·śā·’îm wə·‘al kāl- ’al·lō·w·nê hab·bā·šān — WLC · 13

against all the tall mountains, against all the high hills,
𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤓𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤄𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤍𐤔𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤄𐤂𐤁𐤏𐤅𐤕
וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ הָרָמִ֑ים הֶהָרִ֣ים וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ הַנִּשָּׂאֽוֹת׃ הַגְּבָע֥וֹת wə·‘al kāl- hā·rā·mîm he·hā·rîm wə·‘al kāl- han·niś·śā·’ō·wṯ hag·gə·ḇā·‘ō·wṯ — WLC · 14

against every high tower, against every fortified wall,
𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤂𐤁𐤄 𐤌𐤂𐤃𐤋 𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤁𐤑𐤅𐤓𐤄 𐤇𐤅𐤌𐤄
וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ גָּבֹ֑הַ מִגְדָּ֣ל וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ בְצוּרָֽה׃ חוֹמָ֥ה wə·‘al kāl- gå̄·ḇō·ha miḡ·dāl wə·‘al kāl- ḇə·ṣū·rāh ḥō·w·māh — WLC · 15

against every ship of Tarshish, and against every stately vessel.
𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤍𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤕𐤓𐤔𐤉𐤔 𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤇𐤌𐤃𐤄 𐤔𐤊𐤉𐤅𐤕
וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ אֳנִיּ֣וֹת תַּרְשִׁ֑ישׁ וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ הַחֶמְדָּֽה׃ שְׂכִיּ֥וֹת wə·‘al kāl- ’o·nî·yō·wṯ tar·šîš wə·‘al kāl- ha·ḥem·dāh śə·ḵî·yō·wṯ — WLC · 16

So the pride of man will be brought low, and the loftiness of men will be humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day,
𐤂𐤁𐤄𐤅𐤕 𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤅𐤔𐤇 𐤓𐤅𐤌 𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤋𐤁𐤃𐤅 𐤅𐤍𐤔𐤂𐤁 𐤄𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌
גַּבְה֣וּת הָאָדָ֔ם וְשַׁח֙ ר֣וּם אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וְשָׁפֵ֖ל יְהוָ֛ה לְבַדּ֖וֹ וְנִשְׂגַּ֧ב הַהֽוּא׃ בַּיּ֥וֹם gaḇ·hūṯ hā·’ā·ḏām wə·šaḥ rūm ’ă·nā·šîm wə·šā·p̄êl Yah·weh lə·ḇad·dōw wə·niś·gaḇ ha·hū bay·yō·wm — WLC · 17

and the idols will vanish completely.

וְהָאֱלִילִ֖ים יַחֲלֹֽף׃ כָּלִ֥יל wə·hā·’ĕ·lî·lîm ya·ḥă·lōp̄ kā·lîl — WLC · 18

Men will flee to caves in the rocks and holes in the ground, away from the terror of the LORD and from the splendor of His majesty, when He rises to shake the earth.
𐤅𐤁𐤀𐤅 𐤁𐤌𐤏𐤓𐤅𐤕 𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤌𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤕 𐤏𐤐𐤓 𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤐𐤇𐤃 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤌𐤄𐤃𐤓 𐤂𐤀𐤅𐤍𐤅 𐤁𐤒𐤅𐤌𐤅 𐤋𐤏𐤓𐤑 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑
וּבָ֙אוּ֙ בִּמְעָר֣וֹת צֻרִ֔ים וּבִמְחִלּ֖וֹת עָפָ֑ר מִפְּנֵ֞י פַּ֤חַד יְהוָה֙ וּמֵהֲדַ֣ר גְּאוֹנ֔וֹ בְּקוּמ֖וֹ לַעֲרֹ֥ץ הָאָֽרֶץ׃ ū·ḇā·’ū bim·‘ā·rō·wṯ ṣu·rîm ū·ḇim·ḥil·lō·wṯ ‘ā·p̄ār mip·pə·nê pa·ḥaḏ Yah·weh ū·mê·hă·ḏar gə·’ō·w·nōw bə·qū·mōw la·‘ă·rōṣ hā·’ā·reṣ — WLC · 19

In that day men will cast away to the moles… and bats their idols of silver and… gold— [the idols] they made to worship.
𐤄𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤋𐤇𐤐𐤓 𐤐𐤓𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤋𐤏𐤈𐤋𐤐𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤋𐤉 𐤊𐤎𐤐𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤋𐤉 𐤆𐤄𐤁𐤅 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤏𐤔𐤅 𐤋𐤅 𐤋𐤄𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤕
הַהוּא֙ בַּיּ֤וֹם הָאָדָ֔ם אֵ֚ת יַשְׁלִ֣יךְ לַחְפֹּ֥ר פֵּר֖וֹת וְלָעֲטַלֵּפִֽים׃ אֱלִילֵ֣י כַסְפּ֔וֹ וְאֵ֖ת אֱלִילֵ֣י זְהָב֑וֹ אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָֽשׂוּ־ לוֹ֙ לְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֔ת ha·hū bay·yō·wm hā·’ā·ḏām ’êṯ yaš·lîḵ laḥ·pōr pê·rō·wṯ wə·lā·‘ă·ṭal·lê·p̄îm ’ĕ·lî·lê ḵas·pōw wə·’êṯ ’ĕ·lî·lê zə·hā·ḇōw ’ă·šer ‘ā·śū- lōw lə·hiš·ta·ḥă·wōṯ — WLC · 20
