Chapter 2

Ezekiel’s Call

1

“Son of man, He said to me, “stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.”

𐤁𐤍 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤏𐤋 𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤅𐤀𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤕𐤊

בֶּן־ אָדָם֙ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלָ֑י עֲמֹ֣ד עַל־ רַגְלֶ֔יךָ וַאֲדַבֵּ֖ר אֹתָֽךְ׃ ben- ’ā·ḏām way·yō·mer ’ê·lāy ‘ă·mōḏ ‘al- raḡ·le·ḵā wa·’ă·ḏab·bêr ’ō·ṯāḵWLC · 1

And as He spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard [Him] speaking to me.

𐤊𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤓𐤅𐤇 𐤅𐤕𐤁𐤀 𐤁𐤉 𐤅𐤕𐤏𐤌𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤋 𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉 𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤌𐤏 𐤀𐤕 𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤐

כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ דִּבֶּ֣ר אֵלַ֔י ר֗וּחַ וַתָּ֧בֹא בִ֣י וַתַּעֲמִדֵ֖נִי עַל־ רַגְלָ֑י וָאֶשְׁמַ֕ע אֵ֖ת מִדַּבֵּ֥ר אֵלָֽי׃פ ka·’ă·šer dib·ber ’ê·lay rū·aḥ wat·tā·ḇō ḇî wat·ta·‘ă·mi·ḏê·nî ‘al- raḡ·lāy wā·’eš·ma‘ ’êṯ mid·dab·bêr ’ê·lāyWLC · 2

“Son of man,” He said to me, “I am sending you to the Israelites…, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. To… this very day they and their fathers have rebelled against Me.

𐤁𐤍 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤀𐤅𐤕𐤊 𐤔𐤅𐤋𐤇 𐤀𐤋 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤅𐤓𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤌𐤓𐤃𐤅 𐤁𐤉 𐤏𐤃 𐤏𐤑𐤌 𐤄𐤆𐤄 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤅𐤕𐤌 𐤐𐤔𐤏𐤅 𐤁𐤉

בֶּן־ אָדָם֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֗י אֲנִ֤י אֽוֹתְךָ֙ שׁוֹלֵ֨חַ אֶל־ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶל־ הַמּוֹרְדִ֖ים גּוֹיִ֥ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר מָרְדוּ־ בִ֑י עַד־ עֶ֖צֶם הַזֶּֽה׃ הַיּ֥וֹם הֵ֤מָּה וַאֲבוֹתָם֙ פָּ֣שְׁעוּ בִ֔י ben- ’ā·ḏām way·yō·mer ’ê·lay ’ă·nî ’ō·wṯ·ḵā šō·w·lê·aḥ ’el- bə·nê yiś·rā·’êl ’el- ham·mō·wr·ḏîm gō·w·yim ’ă·šer mā·rə·ḏū- ḇî ‘aḏ- ‘e·ṣem haz·zeh hay·yō·wm hêm·māh wa·’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām pā·šə·‘ū ḇîWLC · 3

They are obstinate… and stubborn… children. I am sending you to them, and you are to say to them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’

𐤒𐤔𐤉 𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤇𐤆𐤒𐤉 𐤋𐤁 𐤅𐤄𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤔𐤅𐤋𐤇 𐤀𐤅𐤕𐤊 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤕 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓

קְשֵׁ֤י פָנִים֙ וְחִזְקֵי־ לֵ֔ב וְהַבָּנִ֗ים אֲנִ֛י שׁוֹלֵ֥חַ אוֹתְךָ֖ אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם כֹּ֥ה אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהֹוִֽה׃ אָמַ֖ר qə·šê p̄ā·nîm wə·ḥiz·qê- lêḇ wə·hab·bā·nîm ’ă·nî šō·w·lê·aḥ ’ō·wṯ·ḵā ’ă·lê·hem wə·’ā·mar·tā ’ă·lê·hem kōh ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·marWLC · 4

And whether they listen or refuse to listen— for they are a rebellious house— they will know that a prophet has been among them.

𐤀𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤌 𐤉𐤇𐤃𐤋𐤅 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤌𐤓𐤉 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤏𐤅 𐤊𐤉 𐤍𐤁𐤉𐤀 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤁𐤕𐤅𐤊𐤌𐤐

אִם־ וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ יִשְׁמְע֣וּ וְאִם־ יֶחְדָּ֔לוּ כִּ֛י הֵ֑מָּה מְרִ֖י בֵּ֥ית וְיָ֣דְע֔וּ כִּ֥י נָבִ֖יא הָיָ֥ה בְתוֹכָֽם׃פ ’im- wə·hêm·māh yiš·mə·‘ū wə·’im- yeḥ·dā·lū kî hêm·māh mə·rî bêṯ wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū kî nā·ḇî hā·yāh ḇə·ṯō·w·ḵāmWLC · 5

But you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns surround you, and you dwell among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their presence,… though they are a rebellious… house.

𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤁𐤍 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤉𐤓𐤀 𐤌𐤄𐤌 𐤅𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤉𐤓𐤀 𐤊𐤉 𐤎𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤎𐤋𐤅𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤅𐤕𐤊 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤉𐤅𐤔𐤁 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤏𐤒𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤉𐤓𐤀 𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤕𐤇𐤕 𐤅𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤀𐤋 𐤊𐤉 𐤌𐤓𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤁𐤉𐤕

וְאַתָּ֣ה בֶן־ אָ֠דָם אַל־ תִּירָ֨א מֵהֶ֜ם וּמִדִּבְרֵיהֶ֣ם אַל־ תִּירָ֗א כִּ֣י סָרָבִ֤ים וְסַלּוֹנִים֙ אוֹתָ֔ךְ אַתָּ֣ה יוֹשֵׁ֑ב וְאֶל־ עַקְרַבִּ֖ים אַל־ תִּירָא֙ מִדִּבְרֵיהֶ֤ם תֵּחָ֔ת וּמִפְּנֵיהֶ֣ם אַל־ כִּ֛י מְרִ֖י הֵֽמָּה׃ בֵּ֥ית wə·’at·tāh ḇen- ’ā·ḏām ’al- tî·rā mê·hem ū·mid·diḇ·rê·hem ’al- tî·rā kî sā·rā·ḇîm wə·sal·lō·w·nîm ’ō·w·ṯāḵ ’at·tāh yō·wō·šêḇ wə·’el- ‘aq·rab·bîm ’al- tî·rā mid·diḇ·rê·hem tê·ḥāṯ ū·mip·pə·nê·hem ’al- kî mə·rî hêm·māh bêṯWLC · 6

But speak My words to them, whether they listen or refuse to listen, for they are rebellious.

𐤅𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤀𐤌 𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤌 𐤉𐤇𐤃𐤋𐤅 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤄𐤐 𐤌𐤓𐤉

וְדִבַּרְתָּ֤ אֶת־ דְּבָרַי֙ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אִֽם־ יִשְׁמְע֖וּ וְאִם־ יֶחְדָּ֑לוּ כִּ֥י הֵֽמָּה׃פ מְרִ֖י wə·ḏib·bar·tā ’eṯ- də·ḇā·ray ’ă·lê·hem ’im- yiš·mə·‘ū wə·’im- yeḥ·dā·lū kî hêm·māh mə·rîWLC · 7

And you, son of man, listen to what I tell you… Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I give you.”

𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤁𐤍 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤔𐤌𐤏 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤄𐤉 𐤌𐤓𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤓𐤉 𐤊𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤐𐤑𐤄 𐤐𐤉𐤊 𐤅𐤀𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤍𐤕𐤍 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤊

וְאַתָּ֣ה בֶן־ אָדָ֗ם שְׁמַע֙ אֵ֤ת אֲשֶׁר־ אֲנִי֙ מְדַבֵּ֣ר אֵלֶ֔יךָ אַל־ תְּהִי־ מֶ֖רִי הַמֶּ֑רִי כְּבֵ֣ית פְּצֵ֣ה פִ֔יךָ וֶאֱכֹ֕ל אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־ אֲנִ֖י נֹתֵ֥ן אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ wə·’at·tāh ḇen- ’ā·ḏām šə·ma‘ ’êṯ ’ă·šer- ’ă·nî mə·ḏab·bêr ’ê·le·ḵā ’al- tə·hî- me·rî ham·me·rî kə·ḇêṯ pə·ṣêh p̄î·ḵā we·’ĕ·ḵōl ’êṯ ’ă·šer- ’ă·nî nō·ṯên ’ê·le·ḵāWLC · 8

Then I looked and saw a hand reaching out to me, and in it was a scroll…,

𐤅𐤀𐤓𐤀𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤉𐤃 𐤔𐤋𐤅𐤇𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤁𐤅 𐤌𐤂𐤋𐤕 𐤎𐤐𐤓

וָאֶרְאֶ֕ה וְהִנֵּה־ יָ֖ד שְׁלוּחָ֣ה אֵלָ֑י וְהִנֵּה־ ב֖וֹ מְגִלַּת־ סֵֽפֶר׃ wā·’er·’eh wə·hin·nêh- yāḏ šə·lū·ḥāh ’ê·lāy wə·hin·nêh- ḇōw mə·ḡil·laṯ- sê·p̄erWLC · 9

which He unrolled before me. And written on the front and back of it [were] words of lamentation, mourning, and woe.

𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤓𐤔 𐤀𐤅𐤕𐤄 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤀 𐤊𐤕𐤅𐤁𐤄 𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤀𐤇𐤅𐤓 𐤅𐤊𐤕𐤅𐤁 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤄 𐤒𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤂𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤎

וַיִּפְרֹ֤שׂ אוֹתָהּ֙ לְפָנַ֔י וְהִ֥יא כְתוּבָ֖ה פָּנִ֣ים וְאָח֑וֹר וְכָת֣וּב אֵלֶ֔יהָ קִנִ֥ים וָהֶ֖גֶה וָהִֽי׃ס way·yip̄·rōś ’ō·w·ṯāh lə·p̄ā·nay wə·hî ḵə·ṯū·ḇāh pā·nîm wə·’ā·ḥō·wr wə·ḵā·ṯūḇ ’ê·le·hā qi·nîm wā·he·ḡeh wā·hîWLC · 10
