Chapter 39
The Slaughter of Gog’s Armies

[“]As for you, O son of man, prophesy against Gog and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.
𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤁𐤍 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤄𐤍𐤁𐤀 𐤏𐤋 𐤂𐤅𐤂 𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤕 𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤄𐤍𐤍𐤉 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤂𐤅𐤂 𐤓𐤀𐤔 𐤍𐤔𐤉𐤀 𐤌𐤔𐤊 𐤅𐤕𐤁𐤋
וְאַתָּ֤ה בֶן־ אָדָם֙ הִנָּבֵ֣א עַל־ גּ֔וֹג וְאָ֣מַרְתָּ֔ כֹּ֥ה אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה אָמַ֖ר הִנְנִ֤י אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ גּ֔וֹג רֹ֖אשׁ נְשִׂ֕יא מֶ֥שֶׁךְ וְתֻבָֽל׃ wə·’at·tāh ḇen- ’ā·ḏām hin·nā·ḇê ‘al- gō·wḡ wə·’ā·mar·tā kōh ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar hin·nî ’ê·le·ḵā gō·wḡ rōš nə·śî me·šeḵ wə·ṯu·ḇāl — WLC · 1

I will turn you around, drive you along, bring you up from the far north, and send you against the mountains of Israel.

Then I will strike the bow from your left hand and dash down the arrows from your right hand.

וְהִכֵּיתִ֥י קַשְׁתְּךָ֖ שְׂמֹאולֶ֑ךָ מִיַּ֣ד אַפִּֽיל׃ וְחִצֶּ֕יךָ יְמִינְךָ֖ מִיַּ֥ד wə·hik·kê·ṯî qaš·tə·ḵā śə·mō·w·le·ḵā mî·yaḏ ’ap·pîl wə·ḥiṣ·ṣe·ḵā yə·mî·nə·ḵā mî·yaḏ — WLC · 3

On the mountains of Israel you will fall— you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to every kind of ravenous bird and wild beast.

עַל־ הָרֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל תִּפּ֗וֹל אַתָּה֙ וְכָל־ אֲגַפֶּ֔יךָ וְעַמִּ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתָּ֑ךְ נְתַתִּ֥יךָ לְאָכְלָֽה׃ כָּל־ כָּנָ֛ף לְעֵ֨יט צִפּ֧וֹר הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה וְחַיַּ֥ת ‘al- hā·rê yiś·rā·’êl tip·pō·wl ’at·tāh wə·ḵāl ’ă·ḡap·pe·ḵā wə·‘am·mîm ’ă·šer ’it·tāḵ nə·ṯat·tî·ḵā lə·’āḵ·lāh kāl- kā·nāp̄ lə·‘êṭ ṣip·pō·wr haś·śā·ḏeh wə·ḥay·yaṯ — WLC · 4

You will fall in the open field…, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.

I will send fire on Magog and on those who dwell securely in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD.

וְשִׁלַּחְתִּי־ אֵ֣שׁ בְּמָג֔וֹג וּבְיֹשְׁבֵ֥י לָבֶ֑טַח הָאִיִּ֖ים וְיָדְע֖וּ כִּי־ אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ wə·šil·laḥ·tî- ’êš bə·mā·ḡō·wḡ ū·ḇə·yō·šə·ḇê lā·ḇe·ṭaḥ hā·’î·yîm wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū kî- ’ă·nî Yah·weh — WLC · 6

So I will make My holy name known among My people Israel and will no longer allow it… to be profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.

וְאֶת־ קָדְשִׁ֜י שֵׁ֨ם אוֹדִ֗יעַ בְּתוֹךְ֙ עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְלֹֽא־ ע֑וֹד שֵׁם־ קָדְשִׁ֖י אַחֵ֥ל אֶת־ הַגּוֹיִם֙ וְיָדְע֤וּ כִּי־ אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֔ה קָד֖וֹשׁ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ wə·’eṯ- qāḏ·šî šêm ’ō·w·ḏî·a‘ bə·ṯō·wḵ ‘am·mî yiś·rā·’êl wə·lō- ‘ō·wḏ šêm- qāḏ·šî ’a·ḥêl ’eṯ- hag·gō·w·yim wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū kî- ’ă·nî Yah·weh qā·ḏō·wōš bə·yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 7

Yes, it is coming, and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD. This is the day of which I have spoken.

הִנֵּ֤ה בָאָה֙ וְנִֽהְיָ֔תָה נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה ה֥וּא הַיּ֖וֹם אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃ hin·nêh ḇā·’āh wə·nih·yā·ṯāh nə·’um ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh hū hay·yō·wm ’ă·šer dib·bar·tî — WLC · 8

Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out, kindle fires, and burn up the weapons— the bucklers and shields, the bows and arrows, the clubs… and spears. For seven years vvv vvv they will use them for fuel.

יֹשְׁבֵ֣י׀ עָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְֽיָצְא֞וּ וּבִעֲר֡וּ וְ֠הִשִּׂיקוּ בְּנֶ֨שֶׁק וּמָגֵ֤ן וְצִנָּה֙ בְּקֶ֣שֶׁת וּבְחִצִּ֔ים וּבְמַקֵּ֥ל יָ֖ד וּבְרֹ֑מַח שֶׁ֥בַע שָׁנִֽים׃ וּבִעֲר֥וּ בָהֶ֛ם אֵ֖שׁ yō·šə·ḇê ‘ā·rê yiś·rā·’êl wə·yā·ṣə·’ū ū·ḇi·‘ă·rū wə·hiś·śî·qū bə·ne·šeq ū·mā·ḡên wə·ṣin·nāh bə·qe·šeṯ ū·ḇə·ḥiṣ·ṣîm ū·ḇə·maq·qêl yāḏ ū·ḇə·rō·maḥ še·ḇa‘ šā·nîm ū·ḇi·‘ă·rū ḇā·hem ’êš — WLC · 9

They will not gather wood from the countryside… or cut it from the forests, for they will use the weapons for fuel… They will loot those who looted them and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord GOD.
𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤅 𐤏𐤑𐤉𐤌 𐤌𐤍 𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤇𐤈𐤁𐤅 𐤌𐤍 𐤄𐤉𐤏𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤁𐤍𐤔𐤒 𐤉𐤁𐤏𐤓𐤅 𐤀𐤔 𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤋𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤔𐤋𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤆𐤆𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤁𐤆𐤆𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤍𐤀𐤌 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤎
וְלֹֽא־ יִשְׂא֨וּ עֵצִ֜ים מִן־ הַשָּׂדֶ֗ה וְלֹ֤א יַחְטְבוּ֙ מִן־ הַיְּעָרִ֔ים כִּ֥י בַנֶּ֖שֶׁק יְבַֽעֲרוּ־ אֵ֑שׁ וְשָׁלְל֣וּ אֶת־ שֹׁלְלֵיהֶ֗ם וּבָֽזְזוּ֙ אֶת־ בֹּ֣זְזֵיהֶ֔ם נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃ס wə·lō- yiś·’ū ‘ê·ṣîm min- haś·śā·ḏeh wə·lō yaḥ·ṭə·ḇū min- hay·yə·‘ā·rîm kî ḇan·ne·šeq yə·ḇa·‘ă·rū- ’êš wə·šā·lə·lū ’eṯ- šō·lə·lê·hem ū·ḇā·zə·zū ’eṯ- bō·zə·zê·hem nə·’um ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh — WLC · 10

And on that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Sea. It will block those who travel through, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called… vvv the Valley of Hamon-gog.
𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤄𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤀𐤕𐤍 𐤋𐤂𐤅𐤂 𐤒𐤁𐤓 𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤔𐤌 𐤁𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤂𐤉 𐤄𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤒𐤃𐤌𐤕 𐤄𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤉𐤀 𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤇𐤎𐤌𐤕 𐤄𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤂𐤅𐤂 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤅𐤍𐤄 𐤅𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤅 𐤔𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤂𐤉𐤀 𐤄𐤌𐤅𐤍 𐤂𐤅𐤂
וְהָיָ֣ה הַה֡וּא בַיּ֣וֹם אֶתֵּ֣ן לְגוֹג֩׀ קֶ֜בֶר מְקֽוֹם־ שָׁ֨ם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל גֵּ֤י הָעֹֽבְרִים֙ קִדְמַ֣ת הַיָּ֔ם הִ֖יא אֶת־ וְחֹסֶ֥מֶת הָעֹֽבְרִ֑ים גּוֹג֙ וְאֶת־ כָּל־ הֲמוֹנֹ֔ה וְקָ֣בְרוּ שָׁ֗ם אֶת־ וְקָ֣רְא֔וּ גֵּ֖יא הֲמ֥וֹן גּֽוֹג׃ wə·hā·yāh ha·hū ḇay·yō·wm ’et·tên lə·ḡō·wḡ qe·ḇer mə·qō·wm- šām bə·yiś·rā·’êl gê hā·‘ō·ḇə·rîm qiḏ·maṯ hay·yām hî ’eṯ- wə·ḥō·se·meṯ hā·‘ō·ḇə·rîm gō·wḡ wə·’eṯ- kāl- hă·mō·nōh wə·qā·ḇə·rū šām ’eṯ- wə·qā·rə·’ū gê hă·mō·wn gō·wḡ — WLC · 11

For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.
𐤔𐤁𐤏𐤄 𐤇𐤃𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤌𐤏𐤍 𐤈𐤄𐤓 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑
שִׁבְעָ֖ה חֳדָשִֽׁים׃ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּקְבָרוּם֙ לְמַ֖עַן טַהֵ֣ר אֶת־ הָאָ֑רֶץ šiḇ·‘āh ḥo·ḏā·šîm bêṯ yiś·rā·’êl ū·qə·ḇā·rūm lə·ma·‘an ṭa·hêr ’eṯ- hā·’ā·reṣ — WLC · 12

All the people of the land will bury them, and it will bring them renown on the day I display My glory, declares the Lord GOD.
𐤊𐤋 𐤏𐤌 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤅𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤅 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤋𐤄𐤌 𐤋𐤔𐤌 𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤄𐤊𐤁𐤃𐤉 𐤍𐤀𐤌 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄
כָּל־ עַ֣ם הָאָ֔רֶץ וְקָֽבְרוּ֙ וְהָיָ֥ה לָהֶ֖ם לְשֵׁ֑ם י֚וֹם הִכָּ֣בְדִ֔י נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃ kāl- ‘am hā·’ā·reṣ wə·qā·ḇə·rū wə·hā·yāh lā·hem lə·šêm yō·wm hik·kā·ḇə·ḏî nə·’um ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh — WLC · 13

And men will be employed to continually pass through the land to cleanse it by burying the invaders who remain on vvv the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their search.
𐤅𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉 𐤉𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤋𐤅 𐤕𐤌𐤉𐤃 𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤋𐤈𐤄𐤓𐤄 𐤌𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤋 𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤌𐤒𐤑𐤄 𐤔𐤁𐤏𐤄 𐤇𐤃𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤇𐤒𐤓𐤅
וְאַנְשֵׁ֨י יַבְדִּ֙ילוּ֙ תָמִ֤יד עֹבְרִ֣ים בָּאָ֔רֶץ לְטַֽהֲרָ֑הּ מְקַבְּרִ֣ים אֶת־ הָעֹבְרִ֗ים אֶת־ הַנּוֹתָרִ֛ים עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הָאָ֖רֶץ מִקְצֵ֥ה שִׁבְעָֽה־ חֳדָשִׁ֖ים יַחְקֹֽרוּ׃ wə·’an·šê yaḇ·dî·lū ṯā·mîḏ ‘ō·ḇə·rîm bā·’ā·reṣ lə·ṭa·hă·rāh mə·qab·bə·rîm ’eṯ- hā·‘ō·ḇə·rîm ’eṯ- han·nō·w·ṯā·rîm ‘al- pə·nê hā·’ā·reṣ miq·ṣêh šiḇ·‘āh- ḥo·ḏā·šîm yaḥ·qō·rū — WLC · 14

As they pass… through the land, anyone who sees a human bone will set up a pillar next to it, until the gravediggers have buried it in… vvv the Valley of Hamon-gog.

וְעָבְר֤וּ הָעֹֽבְרִים֙ בָּאָ֔רֶץ וְרָאָה֙ אָדָ֔ם עֶ֣צֶם וּבָנָ֥ה צִיּ֑וּן אֶצְל֖וֹ עַ֣ד קָבְר֤וּ אֹתוֹ֙ הַֽמְקַבְּרִ֔ים אֶל־ גֵּ֖יא הֲמ֥וֹן גּֽוֹג׃ wə·‘ā·ḇə·rū hā·‘ō·ḇə·rîm bā·’ā·reṣ wə·rā·’āh ’ā·ḏām ‘e·ṣem ū·ḇā·nāh ṣî·yūn ’eṣ·lōw ‘aḏ qā·ḇə·rū ’ō·ṯōw ham·qab·bə·rîm ’el- gê hă·mō·wn gō·wḡ — WLC · 15

(Even the city will be named Hamonah. And so they will cleanse the land.

עִ֛יר וְגַ֥ם שֶׁם־ הֲמוֹנָ֖ה וְטִהֲר֥וּ הָאָֽרֶץ׃ס ‘îr wə·ḡam šem- hă·mō·w·nāh wə·ṭi·hă·rū hā·’ā·reṣ — WLC · 16

And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Call out to every kind… of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you,… a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.

I will display My glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment that I execute and the hand that I lay upon them.

From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.

And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they were unfaithful to Me. So I hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword.

I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid My face from them.

Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for My holy name.

They will forget their disgrace and all the treachery they committed against Me, when they dwell securely in their land, with no one to frighten them.

When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them out of the lands of their enemies, I will show My holiness in them in the sight of many nations.

Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, when I regather them to their own land, not leaving any of them… behind after their exile… among the nations.
