Chambers for the Priests

Then the man led me out vvv vvv northward into the outer court, and he brought me to the group of chambers opposite the temple courtyard and the [outer wall] on the north side.
𐤅𐤉𐤅𐤑𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤄𐤑𐤐𐤅𐤍 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤇𐤉𐤑𐤅𐤍𐤄 𐤄𐤇𐤑𐤓 𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤋𐤔𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤍𐤂𐤃 𐤄𐤂𐤆𐤓𐤄 𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤍𐤂𐤃 𐤄𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤍 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤑𐤐𐤅𐤍
וַיּוֹצִאֵ֗נִי הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַצָּפ֑וֹן אֶל־ הַחִ֣יצוֹנָ֔ה הֶֽחָצֵר֙ וַיְבִאֵ֣נִי אֶל־ הַלִּשְׁכָּ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר נֶ֧גֶד הַגִּזְרָ֛ה וַאֲשֶֽׁר־ נֶ֥גֶד הַבִּנְיָ֖ן אֶל־ הַצָּפֽוֹן׃ way·yō·w·ṣi·’ê·nî had·de·reḵ de·reḵ haṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn ’el- ha·ḥî·ṣō·w·nāh he·ḥā·ṣêr way·ḇi·’ê·nî ’el- hal·liš·kāh ’ă·šer ne·ḡeḏ hag·giz·rāh wa·’ă·šer- ne·ḡeḏ hab·bin·yān ’el- haṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn — WLC · 1

The building with the door facing north [was] a hundred cubits long [and] fifty cubits wide.

Gallery vvv faced gallery in three levels opposite the twenty [cubits] that belonged to the inner court and opposite the pavement that belonged to the outer court.

אַתִּ֥יק אֶל־ פְּנֵֽי־ אַתִּ֖יק בַּשְּׁלִשִֽׁים׃ נֶ֣גֶד הָֽעֶשְׂרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁר֙ הַפְּנִימִ֔י לֶחָצֵ֣ר וְנֶ֣גֶד רִֽצְפָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר הַחִֽיצוֹנָ֑ה לֶחָצֵ֣ר ’at·tîq ’el- pə·nê- ’at·tîq baš·šə·li·šîm ne·ḡeḏ hā·‘eś·rîm ’ă·šer hap·pə·nî·mî le·ḥā·ṣêr wə·ne·ḡeḏ riṣ·p̄āh ’ă·šer ha·ḥî·ṣō·w·nāh le·ḥā·ṣêr — WLC · 3

In front of the chambers [was] an inner walkway… ten cubits wide and a [hundred] cubits long. Their doors were on the north.

Now the upper chambers [were] smaller because the galleries took more space from the chambers on the lower and middle floors of the building.

הָעֶלְיוֹנֹ֖ת וְהַלְּשָׁכ֥וֹת קְצֻר֑וֹת כִּֽי־ אַתִּיקִ֜ים יוֹכְל֨וּ מֵהֵ֗נָה מֵֽהַתַּחְתֹּנ֛וֹת וּמֵהַתִּֽכֹנ֖וֹת בִּנְיָֽן׃ hā·‘el·yō·w·nōṯ wə·hal·lə·šā·ḵō·wṯ qə·ṣu·rō·wṯ kî- ’at·tî·qîm yō·wḵ·lū mê·hê·nāh mê·hat·taḥ·tō·nō·wṯ ū·mê·hat·ti·ḵō·nō·wṯ bin·yān — WLC · 5

For they were arranged in three stories, and unlike the courts, they had no pillars. So… [the upper chambers] were set back further than the lower and middle floors

כִּ֤י הֵ֔נָּה מְשֻׁלָּשׁוֹת֙ כְּעַמּוּדֵ֖י הַחֲצֵר֑וֹת לָהֶן֙ וְאֵ֤ין עַמּוּדִ֔ים עַל־ כֵּ֣ן נֶאֱצַ֗ל מֵהַתַּחְתּוֹנ֛וֹת וּמֵהַתִּֽיכֹנ֖וֹת מֵהָאָֽרֶץ׃ kî hên·nāh mə·šul·lā·šō·wṯ kə·‘am·mū·ḏê ha·ḥă·ṣê·rō·wṯ lā·hen wə·’ên ‘am·mū·ḏîm ‘al- kên ne·’ĕ·ṣal mê·hat·taḥ·tō·w·nō·wṯ ū·mê·hat·tî·ḵō·nō·wṯ mê·hā·’ā·reṣ — WLC · 6

An outer wall in front of the chambers [was] fifty cubits long [and] ran parallel to the chambers [and] the outer court.

לַחוּץ֙ וְגָדֵ֤ר אֶל־ פְּנֵ֣י הַלְּשָׁכ֑וֹת אֲשֶׁר־ חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים אַמָּֽה׃ אָרְכּ֖וֹ לְעֻמַּ֣ת הַלְּשָׁכ֔וֹת דֶּ֛רֶךְ הַחִֽצוֹנָ֖ה הֶחָצֵ֥ר la·ḥūṣ wə·ḡā·ḏêr ’el- pə·nê hal·lə·šā·ḵō·wṯ ’ă·šer- ḥă·miš·šîm ’am·māh ’ā·rə·kōw lə·‘um·maṯ hal·lə·šā·ḵō·wṯ de·reḵ ha·ḥi·ṣō·w·nāh he·ḥā·ṣêr — WLC · 7

For the chambers on the outer court [were] fifty cubits… long, while those facing… the temple [were] a hundred cubits [long].

And below these chambers [was] the entrance on the east side as one enters them from the outer court.
𐤅𐤌𐤕𐤇𐤕𐤄 𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄 𐤋𐤔𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤌𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤁𐤀𐤅 𐤋𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤄𐤇𐤑𐤍𐤄 𐤌𐤄𐤇𐤑𐤓
וּמִתַּחֲתָה הָאֵ֑לֶּה לְּשָׁכוֹת הַמָּבוֹא מֵֽהַקָּדִ֔ים בְּבֹא֣וֹ לָהֵ֔נָּה הַחִצֹנָֽה׃ מֵֽהֶחָצֵ֖ר ū·mit·ta·ḥă·ṯå̄h hā·’êl·leh lə·šå̄·ḵōṯ ham·må̄·ḇō mê·haq·qā·ḏîm bə·ḇō·’ōw lā·hên·nāh ha·ḥi·ṣō·nāh mê·he·ḥā·ṣêr — WLC · 9

On the south side along the length of the wall of the outer court [were] chambers adjoining the courtyard and opposite the building,
𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤓𐤇𐤁 𐤂𐤃𐤓 𐤄𐤇𐤑𐤓 𐤋𐤔𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤀𐤋 𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤂𐤆𐤓𐤄 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤍
דֶּ֧רֶךְ הַקָּדִ֛ים בְּרֹ֣חַב׀ גֶּ֣דֶר הֶחָצֵ֗ר לְשָׁכֽוֹת׃ אֶל־ פְּנֵ֧י הַגִּזְרָ֛ה וְאֶל־ פְּנֵ֥י הַבִּנְיָ֖ן de·reḵ haq·qā·ḏîm bə·rō·ḥaḇ ge·ḏer he·ḥā·ṣêr lə·šā·ḵō·wṯ ’el- pə·nê hag·giz·rāh wə·’el- pə·nê hab·bin·yān — WLC · 10

with a passageway in front of them,… just like the chambers that were on the north. They had the same length… and width, with similar exits and [dimensions]…

וְדֶ֙רֶךְ֙ לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם כְּמַרְאֵ֣ה הַלְּשָׁכ֗וֹת אֲשֶׁר֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַצָּפ֔וֹן כְּאָרְכָּ֖ן כֵּ֣ן רָחְבָּ֑ן וְכֹל֙ מוֹצָ֣אֵיהֶ֔ן וּכְמִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶ֖ן וּכְפִתְחֵיהֶֽן׃ wə·ḏe·reḵ lip̄·nê·hem kə·mar·’êh hal·lə·šā·ḵō·wṯ ’ă·šer de·reḵ haṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn kə·’ā·rə·kān kên rā·ḥə·bān wə·ḵōl mō·w·ṣā·’ê·hen ū·ḵə·miš·pə·ṭê·hen ū·ḵə·p̄iṯ·ḥê·hen — WLC · 11

And corresponding to the doors of the chambers that [were] facing south, [there] [was] a door in front of the walkway… that was parallel to the wall extending… eastward -.

וּכְפִתְחֵ֣י הַלְּשָׁכ֗וֹת אֲשֶׁר֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַדָּר֔וֹם פֶּ֖תַח בְּרֹ֣אשׁ דָּ֑רֶךְ דֶּ֗רֶךְ בִּפְנֵי֙ הַגְּדֶ֣רֶת הֲגִינָ֔ה דֶּ֥רֶךְ הַקָּדִ֖ים בְּבוֹאָֽן׃ ū·ḵə·p̄iṯ·ḥê hal·lə·šā·ḵō·wṯ ’ă·šer de·reḵ had·dā·rō·wm pe·ṯaḥ bə·rōš dā·reḵ de·reḵ bip̄·nê hag·gə·ḏe·reṯ hă·ḡî·nāh de·reḵ haq·qā·ḏîm bə·ḇō·w·’ān — WLC · 12

Then the man said to me, “The north [and] south chambers vvv facing… the temple courtyard… are the holy chambers where the priests who approach the LORD will eat the most holy offerings… There they will place the most holy offerings…— the grain offerings, the sin offerings, and the guilt offerings— for the place is holy.
𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉 𐤄𐤑𐤐𐤅𐤍 𐤄𐤃𐤓𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤔𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤋𐤔𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤂𐤆𐤓𐤄 𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤋𐤔𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤔𐤌 𐤄𐤊𐤄𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤒𐤓𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤉𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤅 𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤉 𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤔𐤌 𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤇𐤅 𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤉 𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤍𐤇𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤔𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤒𐤃𐤔
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֗י הַצָּפ֜וֹן הַדָּרוֹם֮ לִֽשְׁכ֨וֹת לִֽשְׁכ֣וֹת אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶל־ פְּנֵ֣י הַגִּזְרָה֒ הֵ֣נָּה׀ הַקֹּ֗דֶשׁ לִֽשְׁכ֣וֹת אֲשֶׁ֨ר שָׁ֧ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים אֲשֶׁר־ קְרוֹבִ֥ים לַֽיהוָ֖ה יֹאכְלוּ־ קָדְשֵׁ֣י הַקֳּדָשִׁ֑ים שָׁ֞ם יַנִּ֣יחוּ׀ קָדְשֵׁ֣י הַקֳּדָשִׁ֗ים וְהַמִּנְחָה֙ וְהַחַטָּ֣את וְהָאָשָׁ֔ם כִּ֥י הַמָּק֖וֹם קָדֹֽשׁ׃ way·yō·mer ’ê·lay haṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn had·dā·rō·wm liš·ḵō·wṯ liš·ḵō·wṯ ’ă·šer ’el- pə·nê hag·giz·rāh hên·nāh haq·qō·ḏeš liš·ḵō·wṯ ’ă·šer šām hak·kō·hă·nîm ’ă·šer- qə·rō·w·ḇîm Yah·weh yō·ḵə·lū- qā·ḏə·šê haq·qo·ḏā·šîm šām yan·nî·ḥū qā·ḏə·šê haq·qo·ḏā·šîm wə·ham·min·ḥāh wə·ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ wə·hā·’ā·šām kî ham·mā·qō·wm qā·ḏōš — WLC · 13

Once the priests have entered the holy area, they must not go out into the outer… court until they have left behind the garments in which they minister for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they approach… the places that are for the people.”

הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים בְּבֹאָ֣ם מֵהַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ וְלֹֽא־ יֵצְא֤וּ אֶל־ הַחִיצוֹנָ֔ה וְשָׁ֞ם הֶחָצֵ֣ר יַנִּ֧יחוּ בִגְדֵיהֶ֛ם אֲשֶׁר־ יְשָׁרְת֥וּ בָהֶ֖ן כִּֽי־ הֵ֑נָּה קֹ֣דֶשׁ יִלְבְּשׁוּ אֲחֵרִ֔ים בְּגָדִ֣ים וְקָרְב֖וּ אֶל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָעָֽם׃ hak·kō·hă·nîm bə·ḇō·’ām mê·haq·qō·ḏeš wə·lō- yê·ṣə·’ū ’el- ha·ḥî·ṣō·w·nāh wə·šām he·ḥā·ṣêr yan·nî·ḥū ḇiḡ·ḏê·hem ’ă·šer- yə·šā·rə·ṯū ḇā·hen kî- hên·nāh qō·ḏeš yil·bə·šū ’ă·ḥê·rîm bə·ḡā·ḏîm wə·qā·rə·ḇū ’el- ’ă·šer lā·‘ām — WLC · 14
The Outer Measurements

Now when [the man] had finished measuring the interior of the temple area, he led me out by the gate that faced… east, and he measured [the area] all around:

So he measured the area on all four sides. It had a wall all around, five hundred [cubits] long and five hundred [cubits] wide, to separate… the holy from the common.
