Chapter 3
The Vision of Joshua the High Priest
1
Then [the angel] showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, with Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.
𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 𐤄𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤋 𐤄𐤊𐤄𐤍 𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤔𐤈𐤍 𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤏𐤋 𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤋𐤔𐤈𐤍𐤅
וַיַּרְאֵ֗נִי אֶת־ יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ הַגָּד֔וֹל הַכֹּהֵ֣ן עֹמֵ֕ד לִפְנֵ֖י מַלְאַ֣ךְ יְהוָ֑ה וְהַשָּׂטָ֛ן עֹמֵ֥ד עַל־ יְמִינ֖וֹ לְשִׂטְנֽוֹ׃ way·yar·’ê·nî ’eṯ- yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ hag·gā·ḏō·wl hak·kō·hên ‘ō·mêḏ lip̄·nê mal·’aḵ Yah·weh wə·haś·śā·ṭān ‘ō·mêḏ ‘al- yə·mî·nōw lə·śiṭ·nōw — WLC · 1

And the LORD said to Satan: “The LORD rebukes you, Satan! Indeed, the LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you! Is not this man a firebrand snatched from the fire?”

יְהוָ֜ה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֶל־ הַשָּׂטָ֗ן יְהוָ֤ה יִגְעַ֨ר בְּךָ֙ הַשָּׂטָ֔ן יְהוָה֙ הַבֹּחֵ֖ר בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְיִגְעַ֤ר בְּךָ֔ הֲל֧וֹא זֶ֦ה א֖וּד מֻצָּ֥ל מֵאֵֽשׁ׃ Yah·weh way·yō·mer ’el- haś·śā·ṭān Yah·weh yiḡ·‘ar bə·ḵā haś·śā·ṭān Yah·weh hab·bō·ḥêr bî·rū·šā·lim wə·yiḡ·‘ar bə·ḵā hă·lō·w zeh ’ūḏ muṣ·ṣāl mê·’êš — WLC · 2

Now Joshua was dressed in filthy garments as he stood before the angel.
𐤅𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤋𐤁𐤔 𐤑𐤅𐤀𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊
וִיהוֹשֻׁ֕עַ הָיָ֥ה לָבֻ֖שׁ צוֹאִ֑ים בְּגָדִ֣ים וְעֹמֵ֖ד לִפְנֵ֥י הַמַּלְאָֽךְ׃ wî·hō·wō·šu·a‘ hā·yāh lā·ḇuš ṣō·w·’îm bə·ḡā·ḏîm wə·‘ō·mêḏ lip̄·nê ham·mal·’āḵ — WLC · 3

So [the angel] said to those standing before him -, “Take off his filthy clothes!” Then he said to [Joshua], “See, I have removed your iniquity -, and I will clothe you with splendid robes.”
𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤍 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤏𐤌𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤄𐤎𐤉𐤓𐤅 𐤄𐤑𐤀𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤌𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤅 𐤓𐤀𐤄 𐤄𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤏𐤅𐤍𐤊 𐤌𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤅𐤄𐤋𐤁𐤔 𐤀𐤕𐤊 𐤌𐤇𐤋𐤑𐤅𐤕
וַיַּ֣עַן וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אֶל־ הָעֹמְדִ֤ים לְפָנָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הָסִ֛ירוּ הַצֹּאִ֖ים הַבְּגָדִ֥ים מֵעָלָ֑יו וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֗יו רְאֵ֨ה הֶעֱבַ֤רְתִּי עֲוֺנֶ֔ךָ מֵעָלֶ֙יךָ֙ וְהַלְבֵּ֥שׁ אֹתְךָ֖ מַחֲלָצֽוֹת׃ way·ya·‘an way·yō·mer ’el- hā·‘ō·mə·ḏîm lə·p̄ā·nāw lê·mōr hā·sî·rū haṣ·ṣō·’îm hab·bə·ḡā·ḏîm mê·‘ā·lāw way·yō·mer ’ê·lāw rə·’êh he·‘ĕ·ḇar·tî ‘ă·wō·ne·ḵā mê·‘ā·le·ḵā wə·hal·bêš ’ō·ṯə·ḵā ma·ḥă·lā·ṣō·wṯ — WLC · 4

Then I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So a clean turban was placed on his head, and they clothed him…, as the angel of the LORD stood by.
𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤔𐤉𐤌𐤅 𐤈𐤄𐤅𐤓 𐤑𐤍𐤉𐤐 𐤏𐤋 𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤅 𐤄𐤈𐤄𐤅𐤓 𐤄𐤑𐤍𐤉𐤐 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤉𐤌𐤅 𐤏𐤋 𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤁𐤔𐤄𐤅 𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤏𐤌𐤃
וָאֹמַ֕ר יָשִׂ֛ימוּ טָה֖וֹר צָנִ֥יף עַל־ רֹאשׁ֑וֹ הַטָּה֜וֹר הַצָּנִ֨יף וַיָּשִׂימוּ֩ עַל־ רֹאשׁ֗וֹ וַיַּלְבִּשֻׁ֙הוּ֙ בְּגָדִ֔ים וּמַלְאַ֥ךְ יְהוָ֖ה עֹמֵֽד׃ wā·’ō·mar yā·śî·mū ṭā·hō·wr ṣā·nîp̄ ‘al- rō·šōw haṭ·ṭā·hō·wr haṣ·ṣā·nîp̄ way·yā·śî·mū ‘al- rō·šōw way·yal·bi·šu·hū bə·ḡā·ḏîm ū·mal·’aḵ Yah·weh ‘ō·mêḏ — WLC · 5

Then the angel of the LORD gave this charge to Joshua…:
𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤃 𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓
מַלְאַ֣ךְ יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּ֙עַד֙ בִּיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ לֵאמֹֽר׃ mal·’aḵ Yah·weh way·yā·‘aḏ bî·hō·wō·šu·a‘ lê·mōr — WLC · 6

“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘If you walk… in My ways and keep My instructions, then you will govern My house and will also have charge of My courts; and I will give you a place among these who are standing here.
𐤊𐤄 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤑𐤁𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤌 𐤕𐤋𐤊 𐤅𐤀𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤉 𐤕𐤔𐤌𐤓 𐤌𐤔𐤌𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤅𐤂𐤌 𐤕𐤃𐤉𐤍 𐤀𐤕 𐤁𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤅𐤂𐤌 𐤕𐤔𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤕 𐤇𐤑𐤓𐤉 𐤅𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 𐤋𐤊 𐤌𐤄𐤋𐤊𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤉𐤍 𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄 𐤄𐤏𐤌𐤃𐤉𐤌
כֹּה־ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֗וֹת אָמַ֞ר אִם־ תֵּלֵךְ֙ וְאִ֣ם אֶת־ בִּדְרָכַ֤י תִשְׁמֹ֔ר מִשְׁמַרְתִּ֣י אַתָּה֙ וְגַם־ תָּדִ֣ין אֶת־ בֵּיתִ֔י וְגַ֖ם תִּשְׁמֹ֣ר אֶת־ חֲצֵרָ֑י וְנָתַתִּ֤י לְךָ֙ מַהְלְכִ֔ים בֵּ֥ין הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ הָעֹמְדִ֖ים kōh- Yah·weh ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ ’ā·mar ’im- tê·lêḵ wə·’im ’eṯ- biḏ·rā·ḵay ṯiš·mōr miš·mar·tî ’at·tāh wə·ḡam- tā·ḏîn ’eṯ- bê·ṯî wə·ḡam tiš·mōr ’eṯ- ḥă·ṣê·rāy wə·nā·ṯat·tî lə·ḵā mah·lə·ḵîm bên hā·’êl·leh hā·‘ō·mə·ḏîm — WLC · 7

Hear now, O high priest Joshua, you and your companions seated before you, who are indeed… a sign… For behold, I am going to bring My servant, the Branch.
𐤔𐤌𐤏 𐤍𐤀 𐤄𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤋 𐤄𐤊𐤄𐤍 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤅𐤓𐤏𐤉𐤊 𐤄𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤊 𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉 𐤌𐤅𐤐𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤍𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤁𐤉𐤀 𐤀𐤕 𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉 𐤑𐤌𐤇
שְֽׁמַֽע־ נָ֞א הַגָּד֗וֹל הַכֹּהֵ֣ן יְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ׀ אַתָּה֙ וְרֵעֶ֙יךָ֙ הַיֹּשְׁבִ֣ים לְפָנֶ֔יךָ כִּֽי־ אַנְשֵׁ֥י מוֹפֵ֖ת הֵ֑מָּה כִּֽי־ הִנְנִ֥י מֵבִ֛יא אֶת־ עַבְדִּ֖י צֶֽמַח׃ šə·ma‘- nā hag·gā·ḏō·wl hak·kō·hên yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ ’at·tāh wə·rê·‘e·ḵā hay·yō·šə·ḇîm lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā kî- ’an·šê mō·w·p̄êṯ hêm·māh kî- hin·nî mê·ḇî ’eṯ- ‘aḇ·dî ṣe·maḥ — WLC · 8

- See the stone I have set before Joshua; on that one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will engrave on it an inscription, declares the LORD of Hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.
𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤄𐤀𐤁𐤍 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 𐤏𐤋 𐤀𐤇𐤕 𐤀𐤁𐤍 𐤔𐤁𐤏𐤄 𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤍𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤐𐤕𐤇 𐤐𐤕𐤇𐤄 𐤍𐤀𐤌 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤑𐤁𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤌𐤔𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤏𐤅𐤍 𐤄𐤄𐤉𐤀 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤀𐤇𐤃 𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌
כִּ֣י׀ הִנֵּ֣ה הָאֶ֗בֶן אֲשֶׁ֤ר נָתַ֙תִּי֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ עַל־ אַחַ֖ת אֶ֥בֶן שִׁבְעָ֣ה עֵינָ֑יִם הִנְנִ֧י מְפַתֵּ֣חַ פִּתֻּחָ֗הּ נְאֻם֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת וּמַשְׁתִּ֛י אֶת־ עֲוֺ֥ן הַהִ֖יא הָאָֽרֶץ־ אֶחָֽד׃ בְּי֥וֹם kî hin·nêh hā·’e·ḇen ’ă·šer nā·ṯat·tî lip̄·nê yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ ‘al- ’a·ḥaṯ ’e·ḇen šiḇ·‘āh ‘ê·nā·yim hin·nî mə·p̄at·tê·aḥ pit·tu·ḥāh nə·’um Yah·weh ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ ū·maš·tî ’eṯ- ‘ă·wōn ha·hî hā·’ā·reṣ- ’e·ḥāḏ bə·yō·wm — WLC · 9

On that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, you will each invite… [your] neighbor to sit under [your own] vine and fig tree.’”

הַה֗וּא בַּיּ֣וֹם נְאֻם֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת תִּקְרְא֖וּ אִ֣ישׁ לְרֵעֵ֑הוּ אֶל־ תַּ֥חַת גֶּ֖פֶן וְאֶל־ תַּ֥חַת תְּאֵנָֽה׃ ha·hū bay·yō·wm nə·’um Yah·weh ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ tiq·rə·’ū ’îš lə·rê·‘ê·hū ’el- ta·ḥaṯ ge·p̄en wə·’el- ta·ḥaṯ tə·’ê·nāh — WLC · 10
