Chapter 4
The Day of the LORD
1
“For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, [when] all the arrogant and every evildoer… will be stubble; the day is coming when I will set them ablaze -,” says the LORD of Hosts. “Not a root or branch will be left to them.”

כִּֽי־ הִנֵּ֤ה הַיּוֹם֙ בָּ֔א בֹּעֵ֖ר כַּתַּנּ֑וּר וְהָי֨וּ כָל־ זֵדִ֜ים וְכָל־ עֹשֵׂ֤ה רִשְׁעָה֙ קַ֔שׁ הַיּ֣וֹם הַבָּ֗א וְלִהַ֨ט אֹתָ֜ם אָמַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹא־ שֹׁ֥רֶשׁ וְעָנָֽף׃ יַעֲזֹ֥ב לָהֶ֖ם kî- hin·nêh hay·yō·wm bā bō·‘êr kat·tan·nūr wə·hā·yū ḵāl zê·ḏîm wə·ḵāl ‘ō·śêh riš·‘āh qaš hay·yō·wm hab·bā wə·li·haṭ ’ō·ṯām ’ā·mar Yah·weh ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ ’ă·šer lō- šō·reš wə·‘ā·nāp̄ ya·‘ă·zōḇ lā·hem — WLC · 1

“But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like calves from the stall.
𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤉 𐤔𐤌𐤉 𐤔𐤌𐤔 𐤑𐤃𐤒𐤄 𐤅𐤆𐤓𐤇𐤄 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤅𐤌𐤓𐤐𐤀 𐤁𐤊𐤍𐤐𐤉𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤀𐤕𐤌 𐤅𐤐𐤔𐤕𐤌 𐤊𐤏𐤂𐤋𐤉 𐤌𐤓𐤁𐤒
יִרְאֵ֤י שְׁמִי֙ שֶׁ֣מֶשׁ צְדָקָ֔ה וְזָרְחָ֨ה לָכֶ֜ם וּמַרְפֵּ֖א בִּכְנָפֶ֑יהָ וִֽיצָאתֶ֥ם וּפִשְׁתֶּ֖ם כְּעֶגְלֵ֥י מַרְבֵּֽק׃ yir·’ê šə·mî še·meš ṣə·ḏā·qāh wə·zā·rə·ḥāh lā·ḵem ū·mar·pê biḵ·nā·p̄e·hā wî·ṣā·ṯem ū·p̄iš·tem kə·‘eḡ·lê mar·bêq — WLC · 2

Then you will trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day I am preparing,” says the LORD of Hosts.

וְעַסּוֹתֶ֣ם רְשָׁעִ֔ים כִּֽי־ יִהְי֣וּ אֵ֔פֶר תַּ֖חַת כַּפּ֣וֹת רַגְלֵיכֶ֑ם בַּיּוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֲנִ֣י עֹשֶׂ֔ה אָמַ֖ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃פ wə·‘as·sō·w·ṯem rə·šā·‘îm kî- yih·yū ’ê·p̄er ta·ḥaṯ kap·pō·wṯ raḡ·lê·ḵem bay·yō·wm ’ă·šer ’ă·nî ‘ō·śeh ’ā·mar Yah·weh ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ — WLC · 3

“Remember the law of My servant Moses, the statutes and ordinances I commanded him for all Israel at Horeb.
𐤆𐤊𐤓𐤅 𐤕𐤅𐤓𐤕 𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉 𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤇𐤒𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤌𐤔𐤐𐤈𐤉𐤌 𐤑𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤅𐤕𐤅 𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤁𐤇𐤓𐤁
זִכְר֕וּ תּוֹרַ֖ת עַבְדִּ֑י מֹשֶׁ֣ה אֲשֶׁר֩ חֻקִּ֖ים וּמִשְׁפָּטִֽים׃ צִוִּ֨יתִי אוֹת֤וֹ עַל־ כָּל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְחֹרֵב֙ ziḵ·rū tō·w·raṯ ‘aḇ·dî mō·šeh ’ă·šer ḥuq·qîm ū·miš·pā·ṭîm ṣiw·wî·ṯî ’ō·w·ṯōw ‘al- kāl- yiś·rā·’êl ḇə·ḥō·rêḇ — WLC · 4

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome Day of the LORD.
𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤀𐤍𐤊𐤉 𐤔𐤋𐤇 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤄 𐤄𐤍𐤁𐤉𐤀 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤄𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤋 𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤅𐤓𐤀 𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄
הִנֵּ֤ה אָֽנֹכִי֙ שֹׁלֵ֣חַ לָכֶ֔ם אֵ֖ת אֵלִיָּ֣ה הַנָּבִ֑יא לִפְנֵ֗י בּ֚וֹא הַגָּד֖וֹל וְהַנּוֹרָֽא׃ י֣וֹם יְהוָ֔ה hin·nêh ’ā·nō·ḵî šō·lê·aḥ lā·ḵem ’êṯ ’ê·lî·yāh han·nā·ḇî lip̄·nê bō·w hag·gā·ḏō·wl wə·han·nō·w·rā yō·wm Yah·weh — WLC · 5

And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a curse.”

וְהֵשִׁ֤יב לֵב־ אָבוֹת֙ עַל־ בָּנִ֔ים וְלֵ֥ב בָּנִ֖ים עַל־ אֲבוֹתָ֑ם פֶּן־ אָב֕וֹא וְהִכֵּיתִ֥י אֶת־ הָאָ֖רֶץ חֵֽרֶם׃ wə·hê·šîḇ lêḇ- ’ā·ḇō·wṯ ‘al- bā·nîm wə·lêḇ bā·nîm ‘al- ’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām pen- ’ā·ḇō·w wə·hik·kê·ṯî ’eṯ- hā·’ā·reṣ ḥê·rem — WLC · 6
