Chapter 14
In My Father’s House Are Many Rooms
1
[“]{Do} not {let} your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well.
2
In My Father’s house are many rooms. If [it were] not so, would I have told you that I am going [there] to prepare a place for you?
ἐν μου τοῦ Πατρός τῇ οἰκίᾳ εἰσιν πολλαί μοναὶ δὲ εἰ μή ἂν εἶπον ὑμῖν ὅτι πορεύομαι ἑτοιμάσαι τόπον ὑμῖν en mou tou Patros tē oikia eisin pollai monai de ei mē an eipon hymin hoti poreuomai hetoimasai topon hymin — NA/TR · 2
3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.

- You know the way to the place where I am going.

The Way, the Truth, and the Life
5
“Lord, said Thomas -, vvv “we do not know where You are going, [so] how can we know the way?
6
- Jesus answered -, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except… through Me.

7
If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.
εἰ ἐγνώκειτέ με καὶ ᾔδειτε μου τὸν Πατέρα ἂν ἀπ’ ἄρτι γινώσκετε αὐτὸν καὶ ἑωράκατε αὐτόν ei egnōkeite me kai ēdeite mou ton Patera an ap’ arti ginōskete auton kai heōrakate auton — NA/TR · 7

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.

9
- Jesus replied…, “Philip, I have been with you all this time, and vvv still you do not know Me? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How {can} you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
ὁ Ἰησοῦς Λέγει αὐτῷ Φίλιππε εἰμι μεθ’ ὑμῶν Τοσούτῳ χρόνῳ καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωκάς με ὁ ἑωρακὼς ἐμὲ ἑώρακεν τὸν Πατέρα πῶς σὺ λέγεις Δεῖξον ἡμῖν τὸν Πατέρα ho Iēsous Legei autō Philippe eimi meth’ hymōn Tosoutō chronō kai ouk egnōkas me ho heōrakōs eme heōraken ton Patera pōs sy legeis Deixon hēmin ton Patera — NA/TR · 9
10
vvv Do you not believe that I [am] in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, vvv I do not speak on My own. Instead, {it is} the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.
11
Believe Me that I [am] in the Father and the Father [is] in Me— or at least… believe on account of the works themselves.
12
Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me vvv will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater [things] than these, because I am going to the Father.
13
And I will do whatever… you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
καὶ τοῦτο ποιήσω ὅ¦τι ἂν αἰτήσητε ἐν τῷ μου ὀνόματί ἵνα ὁ Πατὴρ δοξασθῇ ἐν τῷ Υἱῷ kai touto poiēsō ho¦ti an aitēsēte en tō mou onomati hina ho Patēr doxasthē en tō Huiō — NA/TR · 13
14
If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do [it].
ἐάν αἰτήσητέ με τι ἐν μου τῷ ὀνόματί ἐγὼ ποιήσω ean aitēsēte me ti en mou tō onomati egō poiēsō — NA/TR · 14
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Ἐὰν ἀγαπᾶτέ με τηρήσετε τὰς ἐμὰς τὰς ἐντολὰς Ean agapate me tērēsete tas emas tas entolas — NA/TR · 15
16
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you vvv vvv forever—
17
the Spirit of truth. The world vvv cannot receive [Him], because vvv it neither sees Him nor knows [Him]. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
τὸ Πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας ὁ κόσμος οὐ δύναται λαβεῖν ὃ ὅτι οὐ θεωρεῖ αὐτὸ οὐδὲ γινώσκει ὑμεῖς γινώσκετε αὐτό ὅτι μένει παρ’ ὑμῖν καὶ ἔσται ἐν ὑμῖν to Pneuma tēs alētheias ho kosmos ou dynatai labein ho hoti ou theōrei auto oude ginōskei hymeis ginōskete auto hoti menei par’ hymin kai estai en hymin — NA/TR · 17
18
vvv I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19
In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
ἔτι μικρὸν καὶ ὁ κόσμος θεωρεῖ με οὐκέτι δὲ ὑμεῖς θεωρεῖτέ με ὅτι ἐγὼ ζῶ ὑμεῖς καὶ ζήσετε eti mikron kai ho kosmos theōrei me ouketi de hymeis theōreite me hoti egō zō hymeis kai zēsete — NA/TR · 19
20
On that day you will know that I [am] in My Father, and you [are] in Me, and I [am] in you.
21
Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the [one who] loves Me. The [one who] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.
ὁ ἔχων μου τὰς ἐντολάς καὶ τηρῶν αὐτὰς ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν ὁ ἀγαπῶν με δὲ ὁ ἀγαπῶν με ἀγαπηθήσεται ὑπὸ μου τοῦ Πατρός κἀγὼ ἀγαπήσω αὐτὸν καὶ ἐμφανίσω ἐμαυτόν αὐτῷ ho echōn mou tas entolas kai tērōn autas ekeinos estin ho agapōn me de ho agapōn me agapēthēsetai hypo mou tou Patros kagō agapēsō auton kai emphanisō emauton autō — NA/TR · 21
22
Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why… are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?
23
Jesus replied…, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
Ἰησοῦς Ἀπεκρίθη καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἐάν τις ἀγαπᾷ με τηρήσει μου τὸν λόγον καὶ μου ὁ Πατήρ ἀγαπήσει αὐτόν καὶ ἐλευσόμεθα πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ποιησόμεθα μονὴν παρ’ αὐτῷ Iēsous Apekrithē kai eipen autō Ean tis agapa me tērēsei mou ton logon kai mou ho Patēr agapēsei auton kai eleusometha pros auton kai poiēsometha monēn par’ autō — NA/TR · 23
24
Whoever vvv does not love Me vvv does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but [it is ] from the Father who sent Me.
ὁ μὴ ἀγαπῶν με οὐ τηρεῖ μου τοὺς λόγους καὶ ὁ λόγος ὃν ἀκούετε ἔστιν οὐκ ἐμὸς ἀλλὰ τοῦ Πατρός πέμψαντός με ho mē agapōn me ou tērei mou tous logous kai ho logos hon akouete estin ouk emos alla tou Patros pempsantos me — NA/TR · 24
25
All this I have spoken to you [while] I am still with you.
26
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and vvv will remind you of everything… I have told you.
δὲ ὁ Παράκλητος τὸ τὸ Ἅγιον Πνεῦμα ὃ ὁ Πατὴρ πέμψει ἐν τῷ μου ὀνόματί ἐκεῖνος διδάξει ὑμᾶς πάντα καὶ ὑμᾶς ὑπομνήσει πάντα ἃ ἐγώ εἶπον ὑμῖν de ho Paraklētos to to Hagion Pneuma ho ho Patēr pempsei en tō mou onomati ekeinos didaxei hymas panta kai hymas hypomnēsei panta ha egō eipon hymin — NA/TR · 26
Peace I Leave with You
27
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I {do} not give to you as the world gives. {Do} not {let} your hearts be troubled; {do} not be afraid.
28
You heard Me say -, ‘I am going away, and I am coming [back] to you. If you loved Me, vvv you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐγὼ εἶπον ὑμῖν Ὑπάγω καὶ ἔρχομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς εἰ ἠγαπᾶτέ με ἄν ἐχάρητε ὅτι πορεύομαι πρὸς τὸν Πατέρα ὅτι ὁ Πατὴρ ἐστιν μείζων μού ēkousate hoti egō eipon hymin Hypagō kai erchomai pros hymas ei ēgapate me an echarēte hoti poreuomai pros ton Patera hoti ho Patēr estin meizōn mou — NA/TR · 28
29
And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
30
I will {not} speak with you much [longer], for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim… on Me.
31
But I do - exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.
