Chapter 13
Examine Yourselves
1
This [is] [the] third [time] I am coming to you. “Every matter must be established by [the] testimony of two or three witnesses.”
2
I already warned [you]… the second time vvv I was [with you]. [So] now in my absence I warn those who sinned earlier and everyone else -: If I return vvv vvv vvv, vvv I will not spare [anyone],
Προείρηκα καὶ τὸ δεύτερον ὡς παρὼν καὶ νῦν ἀπὼν προλέγω τοῖς προημαρτηκόσιν καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς λοιποῖς ὅτι ἐὰν ἔλθω εἰς τὸ πάλιν οὐ φείσομαι Proeirēka kai to deuteron hōs parōn kai nyn apōn prolegō tois proēmartēkosin kai pasin tois loipois hoti ean elthō eis to palin ou pheisomai — NA/TR · 2
3
since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. [He] vvv is not weak in dealing with you but is powerful among you.
4
For vvv He was indeed crucified in weakness, yet He lives by God’s power. For we are also weak in Him, yet by God’s power we will live with Him concerning you.
5
Examine yourselves [to see] whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. vvv Do you not realize that Jesus Christ [is] in you— unless… you fail the test?
6
And I hope you will realize that we have not failed the test.
δὲ ἐλπίζω ὅτι γνώσεσθε ὅτι ἡμεῖς ἐσμὲν οὐκ ἀδόκιμοι de elpizō hoti gnōsesthe hoti hēmeis esmen ouk adokimoi — NA/TR · 6
7
Now we pray to God [that] you vvv will not do [anything] wrong— not that we will appear to have stood the test, but that you will do what [is] right, even if we appear to have failed.
δὲ Εὐχόμεθα πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν ὑμᾶς μὴ ποιῆσαι μηδέν κακὸν οὐχ ἵνα ἡμεῖς φανῶμεν δόκιμοι ἀλλ’ ἵνα ὑμεῖς ποιῆτε τὸ καλὸν δὲ ἡμεῖς ὦμεν ὡς ἀδόκιμοι de Euchometha pros ton Theon hymas mē poiēsai mēden kakon ouch hina hēmeis phanōmen dokimoi all’ hina hymeis poiēte to kalon de hēmeis ōmen hōs adokimoi — NA/TR · 7
8
For vvv we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.
9
In fact, we rejoice when we are weak but you are strong, and our prayer is for your perfection.
10
This is why… I write these things while absent, so that when I am present vvv I will not need to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord gave me for building [you] up, not for tearing [you] down.
Benediction and Farewell
11
Finally, brothers, rejoice! Aim for perfect harmony, encourage one another, [be of] one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
Λοιπόν ἀδελφοί χαίρετε καταρτίζεσθε παρακαλεῖσθε τὸ αὐτὸ φρονεῖτε εἰρηνεύετε καὶ ὁ Θεὸς τῆς ἀγάπης καὶ εἰρήνης ἔσται μεθ’ ὑμῶν Loipon adelphoi chairete katartizesthe parakaleisthe to auto phroneite eirēneuete kai ho Theos tēs agapēs kai eirēnēs estai meth’ hymōn — NA/TR · 11
12
Greet one another with a holy kiss.
Ἀσπάσασθε ἀλλήλους ἐν ἁγίῳ φιλήματι Aspasasthe allēlous en hagiō philēmati — NA/TR · 12
13
All the saints send you greetings…
πάντες οἱ ἅγιοι Ἀσπάζονται ὑμᾶς pantes hoi hagioi Aspazontai hymas — NA/TR · 13
14
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit [be] with all of you.
